How hard is it to do? Mine is making strange noises, and I think it is about to go. Just pre-arranging the job. Anything else I should know?

Thanks

Hey Greg, Mine cut in and out for a period of a few months. After much frustration, I put a charge to the the pump (at the comnnection in the left rear wheelhouse) when it wasn't running. Of course, no pump hum. Mine is a 1988 Classic with NO access plate in the floor (that would be far too kind!). Must drop the tank and all lines (drain it first...) to access the pump. After a lot of searhing Atlantic British was about competitive price-wise, but here's the deal. I have been through this before (with a friends Rover), and the internal pumps had some problems with the wiring/connections. I yanked mine, and disassembled it, moved the two wires around, put a charge to it, and it came to life! I had to solder and repair the connections that didn't look too bad, but were not making solid contact. You gotta love the neighbor's faces when they know you are soldering on a fuel pump ( but then I tell 'em "wait till I weld it back in to the tank!"). All joking aside, it is possible that you have a short, and you have to pull it anyway, so I would check it BEFORE spending close to $300.00. Just a thought! Good luck with it, and let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks.

I have a 97 D1. I don't think it is a short, because it works. It just makes this Gawdawful noise when I turn the key. It has always been hard to start, and the pump has always been suspect. Now that it has the noise, I think it may be time to replace it.

So there is an access panel?

Greg,
It's easy to replace and the access panel is under the rubber cargo mat and carpet in the rear. I posted in detail how to replace it in 2002, do an archive search on my name and you should be able to find it.
