Does anyone know or can point me in the direction of finding out what the recall 'D488' for a 1996 3.9L V8 5Dr Manual was? I have the sticker but do not know what it was. The faulty front right latch was D456 (or something like that)so this presumably is some time after it. Any one else got a 1996 Disco (Aust build) that had it done?

Thanks
Roly

how many recalls are there for discos floating out there? Like many I bought my disco used so I don't get notified by LRNA about recalls and the like. What do you guys know about so far? Not too much I hope. (unless of course it's the valve cover gasket, ABS, tie rod ends, sunroof, door locks and exit and approach angles)

Jack,

This site offers some information on recalls and technical bullitens, however I am not sure if there were only two (2) recalls as is suggested here.

http://www.alldata.com/recalls/index.html

Anyways I am trying to find out what this 'D488' (campaign number) on my door frame is all about and this site doesn't list it.

I was hoping someone who bought a 1996 disco *new* may remember what it was for.

That's pretty interesting.
What constitutes a "service bulletin" does it do anything for me or just identify my many little problems?

I think a service bulletin is simply a formal notification by LR (UK) to the service dealers...what the dealers actually do is up to them i guess. This is only a guess, anyone work for a LR dealer?

You're right (AFAIK) and the dealer is supposed to address the complaint based on the service bulletin. But unlike a recall the dealer won't just address that issue when the car comes in without the customer complaining about it.

SITUATION:
INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL FAULT COULD DEPLOY AIR BAG
Land Rover has established that in certain circumstances chafing can occur to a cruise control wire.
The resulting intermittent ground could cause the rotary coupler to fail, which in turn could initiate an
involuntary deployment of the air bag.
To ensure customer vehicles are protected, Land Rover has initiated a voluntary Recall Action on all
vehicles within the affected VIN range to fit an additional fuse to protect the rotary coupler.
Discovery vehicles built after WA754229 have been fitted with the link-lead fuse.
RESOLUTION:
INSTALL FUSED LINK
A fused link lead will be added to the cruise control circuitry to provide protection of the rotary coupler.
All Discovery vehicles in the VIN range and all Classic Range Rover derivatives fitted with a driver-side
air bag will require the installation of the fused link lead within the steering column.
All affected vehicles in the specified VIN ranges currently held in inventory as new or used vehicles
must be repaired prior to sale.

procedure performed at no charge, regardless of the vehicles age or mileage.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
INSPECTION
1. Inspect under the hood for a Recall sticker or the lower
screw on the bottom cowl of the steering column for
green paint (Figure 1) to determine if the Recall action
has been performed.
2. If the Recall has been performed no further action is
required.

Out of curiosity, does anybody know if those VIN numbers only refer to LRNA units, or all units sold worldwide?
