Okay, one of the previous threads piqued my curiousity and since Im usually one to go "oh, I should have thought of that.." as Im emptying my wallet..hah..
What do you need to do to waterproof a Disco 1, aside from pulling the CD changer, what else am I going to damage if I go up to the windows?? Thanks in advance!! One more project for the winter!!

Nothing you can do to water proof a D1 But these should help...

1.) Snorkel
2.) Extended Breather Tubes
3.) Di-Electric Grease (lots of it)
4.) AAA Membership
5.) Scuba Gear

After all that, unfortunately you're still not a submarine, but it should get you through water that you normally won't be able to do. If you want serious water proofing, get rid of your V8 and swap a diesel in there!

well this really isnt the case. the US military had gasser blazers with 50" certified fording depths . I have a gas motor I go diving with all the time and never have had a problem with.

BUT...with a disco it will be a very big challenge.

I'd make a list but untill I have done one it would just cost someone else money so I wont. but it sure can be done to a very waterproof level for sure.

lol...sorry Glenn didnt mean to be mean...monday mourning knee Jerk reaction...and i'm the jerk

at some point I'm gonna do a full on stripped trail disco and it will be 100% submarine safe I just havent found the right starting point even my 94 is way to sweet to start ripping and tearing on.

to do it right it really has to be down to the frame and back up otherwize you just cant reley on using pressurized components to keep water out. because they wont hold pressure...hence the leaky rover reputation

LOL...

On a serious note, you're right Thom. They're too nice and sweet to do that to them still. Eversince that submarining incident that I had, I'm just more careful now. It was a pain in the ass drying the carpet and all the cleaning necessary to get it straightened out. Well, I guess we live and learn

yea...smelly wet carpet is one of my worst pet peevs...i once had a buncha black mold growing under some carpet in a truck and I would get a nazel infection after spending time in the truck.

my current trail truck has no carpet and rubber mats, when I get to the point of a true trail disco it will have a full linex interior right off the back with pull out drain plugs to get the muddy water out.
