i'm getting some new tires. And thinking about getting some equal. When i tell these guys to put the equal bag in and then put the AirX Filtered Valve Core on will they know what to do? I've lost all respect for tire shops.

Is it just like putting a vavle stem in?
I just want to know what to say if they look at me stupid and ask me what the hell i'm talking about.

Blake,
Yes. The valve core is just another valve core. Most tire shop guys should not be too confused by it.
The tire shop response to equal is pretty interesting though - some of them just can't comprehend. The Goodyear shop where I bought my tires said they absolutely would not put it in for me - at any price. The manager of the Discount shop down the street did it for $5 a tire as long as I gave him a report on how it works. Wherever you do it, keep an eye on the process.

Good Luck

If you're planning to air down, you might forego the filtered valves, as they will take ages to let the air out, and hold up everyone else....

The filtered valve is on for that reason, to filter the equal from comming out or cloging the valve.
I would NOT recommend foregoing the filtered valve...just give it a nice spray of air into the tire before airing down and you should be fine. This clears it of any stuck to the valve.

I've gotta agree with Dean - even with clearing the stem, it still takes forever - and with a standard valve stem it seems like very little is lost - some for sure, but very little especially if the valve stem is rotated high.

Sorry, I agree with eric! a shot of air and then screw on the Stauns and let the tires air down while you drive. Where's the waiting?
By the way, love the equal!!
235/85-16 bfg's with or without mud rides the same. And yeah tire shop wasn't quite sure what to do, I just watched while they did it, they didn't mind because they didn't want to screw anything up. For the first couple of miles it's a little rough, but once the bags open , all's well!

My only question is with the bag floating around in there with the beads doesn't that mess with the beads.. Like the beads hit the bag and get caught up?

putting way to much thought into it. drop the bags in and forget about it. the equal continues to move around so the bag is a non issue, besides, whats the bag weigh an ounce? can't see how an ounce will harm the balance? 6 months on my tires, mud/snow/sand/freeway no ill effects? drop John a line @E.E. and get the equal, valves and caps. he hasn't steered us wrong yet!?

I see no point in buying them from E.E. and having to get the bead on all my tires broken and re-mounted to throw the bags in them when I can just go to Richmond and have it injected in through the valve stem with no bag. I'm not talking about the bag's weight. I'm talking about the little pellets getting caught in the bag while they are all spinning instead of doing their job.

Eric and Marc may be right, because the guy didn't have an air supply to blow-in before he aired down, so that might have made all the difference. And perhaps his filters were of a different type, who knows, but anyway, it did take about 1/2 to one hour for him to air down every time.
