Has anyone had experince with installing a remote starter on a DII? Most makes of remotes specify that they won't work on 98 or later LRs. I'm trying to swap a '01 DII into my '88 RRC. Need to bypass the ignition cutoff. Thanks, Bruce Baker

the problem you will run into is that the engine ECU has to get a security O.K. from the BCU or it will not start. Recommend just having the ECU reprogrammed to get around this feature because i'm not sure how to create some type of bypass.

I haven't installed a remote start in the DII but I have in my DI and it was straight forward with no need to bypass. I also posted the information in the tech section that shows the wiring necessary to connect a remote start and there is no mention of bypassing anything. When wired correctly, a remote start will duplicate exactly what the ignition switch does so the vehicle shouldn't know the difference. If the oem alarm needs to be disarmed the wiring guide in the tech section shows the wire and most remote start systems will have an output for OEM disarm.

I was assuming that you were not going to install the BCU in your 88 RRC. To attempt to wire up the Disco II remotes and other features need to complete the alarm process would be a nightmare. The IDM,BCU and Bosch engine ECU all contribute to the alarm starting process with the BCU and the Bosch ECU sharing a revolving security code. If a starting attempt was made with either one of these missing the codes will no longer match. The vehicle will not start again until the code is matched by testbook.
It still think that the engine ECU reprogram route would be the easiest and save on the hassle of attempting to modify the current lucas systems in the 88 RRC.
