Factory Alarm or Aftermarket??

I bought the car used and it came with one Clifford key fob remote. The problem is the remote is shot and I don't want to put a whole new alarm in. Could the old owner have lost the factory key fob and just used this one instead? The LR factory keyring/remote is indeed a huge one-button unit with a single blinky red light and reads "FCC ID ####, Lucas, Made in UK on the back. It's a dealer-only item, will run you about $120.
