I love to drive my 2000 disco, i am love to zoom around in the hills near my house, how hard can you push a disco and the ace before you get into trouble? I am a grandma around the corners and the twisties I just dont know if this thing can be pushed. Some people I have talked to said that it can handle twisties,I have no clue. Any ideas? I know this is all relative to speed, angles ect. but just some basic imput!

Even, ACE or no ACE this thing is not a 911. Don't push it unless you want to be a statistic and add fuel to the fire that regulators need to impose more rules on SUVs. ACE will help in the twisties and in accident avoidance but if you want something for the twisties get something else, please. If you have to ask how far it can go, you're probably pushing it enough already.

Just remember ACE progressively kicks out with speed. I believe 63 MPH or close to that it no longer functions to give the driver a feel of going over. I think it also is disabled when in low range to allow better articulation, but I havn't proved it.

It's actually progressive with force. At .4g's it will induce roll. At "lower" speeds it will also turn off. But it was designed to give a more comfortable ride not handle the twisties. People used to complain about rovers feeling like they were going to roll over in the turns because of the body roll. ACE corrected that but it won't prevent a vehicle roll because someone was driving their Disco like it's a car.

Back in '99 and sales took me for a test drive and to make 90 deg turn at close to 40mph. It handles great (to me) for something the weighs 5000lbs, but like Al said, its no Porshe.

It is by far the best handling SUV i've ever owned (Durango, Pathfinder, Xterra, Cherokee)Yeah I pretty much owned em all. The disco w/ ACE handles as good or better than most cars. Especially when you realize that the thing weighs 5k. From what I understand, the ACE doesn't work at slow speeds. However the coolest thing that it does is that it automatically disconnects the sway bars when low range is selected.

From RAVE
"The ACE system prevents body roll from cornering forces up to 0.4 g. From 0.4 g there is a progressive increase in body roll but significanly lower than a passive system."

The ECU also has the capability for "off-road detection" and "side slope detection". It computes both of these from the use of two accelerometers. One is mounted above the sunroof switchs and the other is under the truck on the RH side mounted on the frame near the RF door.

While most guys here are like me and would rather stick to basics the ACE system on a STOCK truck is better off-road. The top of the side slope at the old LRNA Lanham creek track was at 42 degrees tilt and the ACE trucks would handle this fine.
