Hi All,

Does anyone know why the spark plugs on my 1996 3.9L V8 D1 are called up in the workshop manual as Champion RN12YC, yet the LR dealer recommends (and uses) the NGK Heat range equivalent? I overheard someone suggesting the Champion was poor quality but that was the only reason. Has anyone tried both? The champion plug also *appears* to penetrate the cylinder further, I could be very wrong here but would that make it easier to fire?

use champion or autolite and change them more often.

platinum is a waste of money in a disco, they just dont run clean enough to get the miles out of them

Champion 322 is as close as you can find to the factory plug, but it's missing a copper core in the side terminal. Champion 3322 has the copper core; it's a platinum plug, but it's cheap compared to most of 'em, so treat it like a normal plug IMHO....

FWIW..

I use the Autolite #65 and have had great success with them. I find them to be in pretty good shape, even after the 25K mile scheduled maintenance interval.

And, you just can't beat the price.

I am running the autolites as well and at 91 cents a piece they are hard to beat, I have changed mine 4 times in the 45k I have put on my truck and i dont think I would reccomend running them much farther then that just because they take 15min to change all 8. when your waiting for the oil to finnish draining you can change them.

dont forget the anti seize!

FWIW, the 3322 plugs are ~1.50 apiece.... not a lot more, to get the double copper core (and like I said, who cares if it is platinum or not at that price, just change 'em....)...

I use the autolites as well.

I have tried Bosch platinums, and they don't work for me. Every time I put them in, my check engine light comes on for cill. misfires.

I just use Bosch copper cores at about a buck apiece and change them often. There's no excuse not to since they are easy to replace and cheap. I have to admit though, the autolites are the best deal for the money...

My 2 cents-
