Good day to you all... I'm new here... Nice Website ! I have a 1995 Discovery V8... When I start her up, the RPM Counter does not move and I have this screeching sound coming from the motor, sounds like the belt slipping.... Then when I drive off, the RPM counter jumps up after a few seconds and starts working with the noise Gone ! Please Help this novice! Regards Hennie |

Sounds like you have your diagnosis pegged... since the belt-driven alternator is what is sending the tachometer signal, a slipping belt could easily cause your symptoms. How old is your belt? Do you have any other electrical problems? Have you verified that the serpentine belt is correctly routed? (this can cause all sorts of squirrelly problems) Perhaps the alt. itself is hanging up on ya.... Have you gone out, popped the hood, have someone start the truck, so you can see what's going on? -L |
