The back of the passenger seat in my 95 RR is stuck in the recline position, and won't come back up. The other adjustments seem to be working just fine. I assume the problem is in the switch in the control box, but I haven't figured out how to take it apart. Also - how do you get your hands on these repair manuals to take care of these little quirks without going to an inconveniently located or surly dealer? |

I believe that there is a fuse (30 amp) under the driver seat for this function. The fuse has a black cover over it. If you don't want to go thru the hassle of cleaning the switch you can purchase a new one from a Mercedes Benz for under $70. I purchased my manual from eBay for $65 (brand new). John C. |

Could the fuse control just one of the directions? The rest of the directions that the motor(s) make the seat move are working OK. As for "cleaning the switch" are we talking about the control box next to the seat itself? Is there an easy or logical way of cracking the thing open? Good call on eBay - will check for more. Thanks DPMc |

As a last ditch effort, try spraying wd-40 inside the switch itself and work it a bit. You'll need to remove the top cover to get access. The real fix is to take it apart and clean it thoroughly. |

Doug, yes, one of the fuses controls the forward/backward movement and the other the reclining movement (at least on my 88 RR). To repair the switch just pop out the control knobs and remove two screws on the inside of the switch. Turn the switch over and remove one screw. Before prying open make sure you are working on a clean surface or place a towel or bowl under the switch in case the bearings fall out. You can go to John Purnell's site or the DII website for detail on cleaning the switch. http://www.jpurnell.com/RR/repairs/seat_switches.htm I ordered the manual on CD and should be receiving it shortly. I'll let you know how good it is when I get it. Good luck. John |

Would'nt electrical contact cleaner be a better choice? I have used it on mine with great success and it won't leave any residue. S- |

YES, go to radio shack and get the contact cleaner !!! the WD-40 does nothing. if this is the first time it's acting up the contact clear will usually work, natuarally go insane with the amount of fluid and work the switched to and fro... this should buy you another few months, but plan on getting a new switch or risk rebuilding it yourself. rd |

I tried WD-40, worked for a day. Tried contact cleaner, worked for a day. Amsoil penetrating spray has kept my switch working for weeks now. I'm sold. |

Its the fuse. Same thing happened to me just before the Holidays. Seperate fuses as John says. 5 minute fix! |

yeah - same thing recently happened to me except it was the forward-back fuse. that made for an interesting evening of fun. what a stupid place for a fuse that controls the ability to change it. Jaime |
