I was at the dealership yesterday returning a DVD I borrowed and saw a yellow XD there. Very nice, all decked out. I went inside and asked the Service Manager who's it was and he told me the fellows name. Said the guy had two of them, one for his wife and one for him which I knew about. The interesting thing was that his XD was actually a Trek unit from out east that he bought all rigged up for the competition...but the sad thing is that the manager told me the fellow won't take it off-road because he "doesn't want to get it dirty". He won't go to any of the dealer events or go anywhere near dirt. I looked at the truck and felt sad for it. :(

You should've brought a cup of mud and spilled it on the truck! lol

I have to admit I thought the same thing Musky did when I saw it-(i.e. the next owner's going to have a clean D1 to build up). I personally don't like "sticker-cluttered" Trek models.

yeah i think in an atlantic british or rovers north magazine some guy with an XD or something wrote that he wouldn't take his offroad because it was to detailed and nice.

Like our Rovers that taste the great outdoors aren't nice .

blake,

there is no doubt that off road beats the piss outa trucks and makes them worth less

but what good is chewing gum in the wrapper?

My girlfriend had the same opinion when I bought my truck. First thing I did was took it in the mud. She's like NOooo its too nice. Why would you do that you your truck?

Me. Life is too short. I say the truck was made for that and thats what it likes. After the first fender bender with a tree she's gotten used to the idea of taking it offroading.

Now all this is regular off-roading till I can get more goodies on! :-) Then might hit some harder trails.

LOL. I forgot about that truck in the AB mag. This one didn't have quite as many decals (actually just a couple LR ones) but he had blacked out windows and the rest of the goodies on it. It looked so sad sitting there all shiney. Mine was over a couple stalls and you can't even tell I have alloy wheels. :)

Yeah,

The neighbors couldn't believe it when I came home one day with the front right quarter panel torn back like I had at it with a can opener.

I yanked it off brought out the vice and anvel, and fixed it in the front yard. The whole thing was funny, because I almost had a constant audience. You can't really tell that it ever happened, aside from a 1" rip in the lip where it folds under to contact the front bumper.

I get irritated with people who buy them for what I think are stupid reasons, but I am opinionated, and I realize that, so I keep my opinions to my self...usually...

Cheers,

Kennith

Just think about it, though...The more soccer moms and other non-offroaders running LR's means more offroad vehicles available in the future and cheaper new AND used parts too... :)

LOL, exactly...
there's a little more beauty in this - say, back in the late 80s and early 90s, a Wagoneer was a luxury only old and wealthy farts could afford. 10-15 years later, they still cannot grasp the fact that the market value of these trucks is zero, and would ask some ridiculous amounts of money for them. Similar thing with the range rovers, but original owners were younger - so now an RRC in a good condition costs very little (there's a nice '90 SWB with an ARB bumper for sale, asking $4500, sat on the same spot with "For sale sign" for ages now). The people who buy Discos are younger even, and either cling to them, or get rid of them in search of something fancier.
Venture to predict a '03 Disco with reasonable mileage in five years?

Peter,
That's what I did, I got my 99D2 with 26K miles for 22,750. Lease turn in vehicle. Completely loaded. All records, dealership maintained.

There is a guy down here in Savannah, GA with a totally decked out Trek Disco that he will not take out. He told me he "took it offroad once and the truck tilted on a hill" and that "scared" him sooooooooo bad he will not take it out any more. Sad, so sad.

Did that Trek Disco have a angle meter? If not then that would have saved the "tilt on the hill" by letting him know exactly how many degrees he was. (whahahaha) I'm only kidding folks. Maybe he woulda stared at it so long he would have tilted...

I bought my '96 from the original owner, a single girl (model) who wanted it for the looks. She never took it off pavement, but get this - in winter, she borrowed her dads old Dodge Powerwagon so the Disco wouldn't get all snowy!!

I put the first character line in the paint about 11 hours after getting the keys.

Peter, where's this RR you mentioned? I'm in San Diego and was just at the Poker Run over the weekend with my friend. He's thinking about getting an RR Classic and might be interested in it.
