I recently bought 2 heated seat switches and a cover plate. Installed and presto heated heats for the disco. The '99 and '00 discoII's already have the heating elements installed in them (only with leather seats). Just thought you should know!

So the console is already wired up and ready for the seat switches?

I've got a 99 Disco2 and my wife would love to have heated seats!

Can anyone else verify this?

Best is to verify this yourself. Remove the cover plate and then the screws holding the mounting plate for the window switches.

Look inside and you should see two harnesses terminated with sockets into which the heated seat switches will plug.

If you leave this all open when you go the dealer to get the switches you can test it right away before leaving in case it doesn't work.

All D2s have the switch wiring, regardless of whether or not they have the heater elements, so this is not a guarantee that you have the heater elements.

Look to see if you see any wires going up to the middle back of the bottom seat cushion or the middle bottom of the seat-back.

Or, if you want visual confirmation, loosen the upholstery clips around the periphery and lift up the upholstery. You should see a foam insert with wires inside that is stuck to the foam seat cushion. That is the heater element.

E-mail me if you have any questions.

Kinda funny that Landrover would "enable" these seats for heating, but not allow you to have it, unless you actually buy it and the time of purchase.

I bought my 99 Discovery II from the local dealership "pre-certified". I asked him about heated seats and he told me that I would have to buy all new seats and get everything wired up. This would cost quite a bit of cash, so I didn't think anything of it until I read this post.

Just got back from a Landrover service shop (not the dealership), and when I explained everything, he looked at me like I was on crack or something. Like Koby said (above two posts), along with the mechanic, is that even though the wiring is there, you may not have the heating elements in the seat.

I guess I better go check my seats. Thanks for the help everyone!

Even if you don't have the heater elements, it's not hard to add them.

See the tech section for my writeup on installing heater elements. My 2001 SD didn't have heater elements when I bought mine, but they're in there now!
