Bought a 2000 Disco2 yesterday! I looked at the 2003 headlights and was wondering if there is any way to retrofit those into a 2000.. Then again if it's not a straight swap I am not sure I want to mess with working electricals ;-)
Failing that are there darker (or clear/grayish) turn signals for the disco 2?

We are currently bashing the idea at "03 disco headlights". Why don't you join us and help joey out.

Joey and I are going to try it this weekend, I think.

The truth is Greg you will probably be shunned for wanting to make your disco look more appealing since it is for “off-roading” only and it is not supposed to look like an on road truck. That is where the previous ‘03 headlight topic was going. After looking at the ’03 and <’03 disco’s the only difference is the trim piece below the headlight and the mounting points. The trim can easily be replaced and I think that the new mounting points are not a problem. We plan on getting an ’03 this weekend to try fitting the lights in our <’03 disco’s. We have a few people that are interested in the idea that live in our area. I guess we will see what happens.

Are these people out to get me??????? The voices in my head are telling me to start another flame war but I'm telling them no for now.

Truth is, our Disco2 is not really for offroading!! can you believe it ?

As much as I enjoyed the demo on the lanrover mini-hill, there are not many mountains in Florida. I make no bones about it.

This car will be used to carry bulky heavy stuff, tow my old porsche 356 to the race track and to the garage (as appropriate), and occasionally ford flooded streets during hurricane season. And if we need to evacuate, I'd rather be in that car. Also for beach stuff if I ever get a jetski...

That said I'd love to off-road it, but it's gonna take a serious earthquake in florida
;-) NO smoked turn signals either then ? The orange signals stick out like a sore thumb on the dark blue car...

Thanks !

Greg,

Carl was being sarcastic when he said our Rovers are meant for off-road use only. The last off-road vehicle I was in didn't have a performance cornering suspension, 18" wheels, low profile tires, and an available DVD entertainment system. There seems to be a large culture gap between us who use our cars for everyday "normal" utility and those who use them to explore the "unknown". As far as the headlights go, I will try to see if they will fit this weekend. I am going to the LR dealership tomorrow. I also believe that the Freelander marker lights will work with the Discovery. The freelander lights have clear lenses. I will also check that out tomorrow.

Greg,

always though a RR Classic towing a horse trailer was a beautiful site.

a Disco II pulling a 356 setup for the track is damn close. enjoy it for the versatility of the vehicle.

Greg,

I was indeed being sarcastic. The "off-roading" comment was for the people who were saying that the disco isn't supposed to look good or have nice accessories because it is an off road only vehicle. I too purchased my disco as a means of transportation in all types of weather and to tow my car when it breaks down ;) or when I take it to the track, in the future. I do have to say that a 356 would look amazing behind a disco!!

Joey just doesn't get it, the ACE, 18" wheels, and DVD don't make the truck (notice they are options) they make an otherwise not overly street friendly truck a little more civilized for the poseur crowd.

Greg,

I was infact being sarcastic. I made the off roading comment for all of the people involved with the other '03 headlight discussion who were saying that a disco shouldn't look nice and that the headlights wouldn't help off roading so what was the point. I purchased my disco to get me where I need to go, through bad weather, rough terrain, and as a utility vehicle to haul things, ie. track car, furniture, etc.

I have seen faq's on making turnsignals looked smoked. I will check that out. I believe I saw it on an audi board (www.audiworld.com) or bmw.

poseur crowd? get this Carter, Land Rover's main market is the poseur crowd at least in the United States. The percentage of people who buy a newer disco (II) don't buy them specifically for the off road ability they buy them for on road driving. People buy discovery's for their diversity, individuality, and character not just for off roading.

I think that you are the one that just doesn't get it.

hey carter

Call it what you want to call it. If you feel better by calling me a poseur-more power to you. For all of you die hard offroaders, apparently a vehicle's looks have no meaning. If that is the case, we might as well take the body panels off of our trucks-they do nothing for offroad-ability. Also, paint must be an unecessary ammenity. Really, paint does nothing for a vehicle's offroad capability so why have it. On that same point, we don't even need windows. They are superfluous, just get dirty and in the way. so why have them. In fact why don't we all just get rid of our rovers and buy tanks. As far as you go, you might be just as well suited driving a dune buggy or something of the sort. Something without any ammenites at all-just a frame and wheels. The funny thing about it is, I can take my Rover offroad AND take it out on the town without any problem or looking like a goofdick. Can you do the same with your no frills, only utility

Actually I can take it out on the town w/ no problems, everyone loves the way it looks and I get coments all the time. It can also haul a lot more camping and fishing gear out into BFE than a dune buggy.

Joey, I was okay with where you were going until you took my windows away! Dammit man, it gets cold out there offroading in the snow! And I also need to block the road sounds from my MTR tires too! Please can I have the windows back? The body panels and paint can go....but not the windows, please?

Ok, you are right, we do want them to look good, unique is what we like, but only as off-road vehicles. We like the camel-trophy look, and because we are humans and like everyone else to agree that our way is the best way, we are forced to degrade any efforts to support a different look for the Disco. Likewise, the street racer/low profile tire folks would feel the same. But, for the most part, and not entirely, the folks here on the Disco web are the former, the off-roaders, so you have to take some lumps my friend! Just be thankful that you aren't supporting a Freelander-look here! Those folks are all walking funny now!

(For the record, I'm all in favor of folks enjoying whatever they want to drive and make it look however they want!)

Hey Rans,

I am in total agreement with you. To each his own. I like the Camel trophy/ Kalahari look myself-but not for everyday use. I had a jeep in the past that I built up - ultimately such that I didn't like how it drove on the street. I now own a very streetable D2 and have no desire to make it trail worthy. I am not trying to force my opinions on anyone, just posting them like the rest. We ultimately are all on the same team here, that is proud LAND ROVER OWNERS.
