Here's a link to a bunch of LR wallpapers. Some of the files are "compressed bitmap", which I have never heard of before. MS Paint will open these files - then you can save them as a regular bitmap so that other graphics programs that don't recognise that format can open them. (Photoshop 5.0 LE wouldn't open a compressed bmp.)

Here's a pic that I would like - the link at the above site did not work correctly. Does anyone have a large size (1024x768) copy of this one?

Any links to other large LR images, preferably Discovery? TIA.

Ok.. fixed the link on the page so it points to the right zip file. The direct link to the .zip file is:

Thanks for catching that.

Chris;

Thanks - I was not aware you were on this board - I had also intended to email you about the bad link.

BTW, what the heck is a compressed bitmap, and why use it over another type?

Hi John, no problem.

The compressed BMP must be what LR UK used. I downloaded them right from various world wide LR sites and put them into one zip file. To be honest, I never had a problem with setting them as wallpaper on Win98, NT, or 2000. I just put them into the proper directories and was able to use them without needing to reconvert them.

Some of the screen savers however I did have to rip and repackage since they never really worked properly when I d/led them. I emailed the people who were running the site then a few times and if they actually ever repackaged them, I dont know. Its been a while since I went farming for new screen savers and wallpaper for the various world wide LR offical sites.

Chris:

I don't really use those images directly as Wallpapers. I converted them to jpgs, and that is where I ran into the problem with opening them to edit.

I use a wallpaper utility called Krapplet's Paper to make slide shows for my desktop, and it uses jpgs as well as bmps. It's a very cool and very free utility - I recommend it.
