Hey guys has anyone ever gone to th Equinox resort in Vermont? I understand the LR Driving school is pretty good. My wife and I are going tomorrow. She wants to go through a course with a "pro". First I was sort of hurt..but then again why should I stop her maybe she will get the LR bug. I am just looking for any experiences good or bad. Or anything you have heard. Thanks, Tony D

I live just around the corner from there and have read a good bit about the school. Let me kwow how it goes. I thought it was a bit pricy? Let me know if it's worth it...

There is another guy here in Albany, NY that offers some type of 4x4 course, I think he used to be affiliated with the LR school at Equinox. There was an article in the paper a few months ago about him. In addition to working with individuals, he trains the local police and rescue teams. I will have to find out the name of his school.

Kyle might give me crap for this but you might want to check out http://www.bb4wa.com if you're looking for off road training. I don't think the Equinox will go far beyond the corporate pitch.

I second Al's recommendation of Bill Burke. You can do as much or as little as you want with Bill, in his Defender or in your vehicle.

I think you can hire Bill solo for about the same daily rate as the group Equinox experience, or join Bill with a group of a few other enthusiasts for significantly less $.

Hi, Tony.

I have been to the Equinox for a one-hour and will be going on a two-hour later this year. They are a sponsor of our local Rover club and have been generous with gift certificates, and I've been lucky enough to win two of them over the last couple years.

I really enjoyed the training. I had already had some good one-on-one from a couple members of our club, so we really brushed past the basics and got out on their course pretty quick. It is a nice feeling to drive a course like that in SOMEONE ELSES's Disco! :-) The cross-slope was something I never would have tried in my truck, and would still be very hesitant about going to that much of an angle, but when the instructor took me thru first and then encouraged me I took the truck right up to the point where I thought I was in risk of rolling, and then eased off the slope a bit. Very thrilling and reassuring that the truck can handle it.

Anyway, their rigs are in great shape, and the staff was very nice. If you find the Equinox resort (pretty easy) the Rover school's not actually inside - they're down a side street maybe 30 - 50 yards. If you don't already have great directions, just go to the resort's front desk and ask and they'll tell you what road to take.

Have fun and post your experience when you're done. I still have a two-hour lesson certificate and was thinking of using it soon but didn't know what it would be like in the winter conditions.
