A thread here asked about the 2 day trips Bill Burke conducts, and I very curious about the value of these. My wife and I get out in the mountains or desert every few weeks in our Disco, but any driving 'tips' I give her more often than not result in a fight.

I'd like her (and me) to learn proper off-road basics. Are the 2 day trips he puts on any good for learning purposes? There is one coming up in SoCal (Anza Borrego) that is close to us (Las Vegas).

Any comments on these 2 day trips? $295, 10 vehicle max, 2 per vehicle.

Thanks,

John F

Do it, you'll be amazed at what you learn. We had him come and do a club class (NCRC) last year at Cow Mountain OHV.

What I found is that we Enthusiasts feel like we know our vehicles and how to wheel pretty well. And we do. But compared to somebody like Bill who has been wheeling for over 30 years, and does it as a full time job, you quickly discover how little you know. Bill does a great job of teaching what he knows, and regardless of your skill level you will learn a lot.

Ditto what Pugsly said. I've been out with Bill a few times on 1 on 1 trips. No matter how much you think you know or even if you're just starting out you'll learn more. And the training he offers is much better than training on a groomed track like at the Equinox. Just bring questions to ask.

I agree with Al - just tell Bill what you want. On our most recent outing (Moab) I mentioned that I was looking for something a bit more technically challenging, and Bill took me to Wipeout Hill where I promptly broke my axle.

Then we had a trailside class on removing broken axles, and in the evening I drove to Bill's house to pick up a spare axle shaft. :)

It was a lot of fun, and a good lesson learned.

Double ditto. I have done two trips now with Bill Burke. I was on the Moab trip with Pugsly, it was fun and I learned. Bill is very knowledgable about vehicles and driving, is fun and a really swell guy.

If you have the $$ do a day or two private lesson with him.

Well, the private lesson will have to wait, but we've decided to go ahead with the Anza Borrego 2-day trip with him. Thanks for the comments...
