Cory,

The Rover will run as long as you want. It might just take some Blood, Sweat, and money to keep it going. Now, If you buy a D2, go Certified Pre-Owned. This way the Dealer looks it over and if anything goes wrong within the warranty window, then it's on them.

I agree with Paul. Go LR Pre-certified. That way you're less likely to end up with someone elses crap. I'm suspecting that Pete has had a bad experience with his local dealer. I purchased my '99 DII from LR Harrisburg, PA and I've never had an issue with them.

I too purchased a 99 DII fom a dealer. It had 35,000 miles and the certified preowned program tacks on an additional 12,000 miles. Since Ford bought them i understand the approval process for clims is different. My experience was good as I now have 76,000 miles on my truck. The 99 and 00 should have the ability to lock center diff. I put on the Great Basin solenoid kit works great with ETC.

My 'problem' was I went to the 'dealer' for 'service'....they decided I needed my car off the road for 1 whole week before denying me an extended warranty claim on my ABS system...which they HAD WORKED ON UNDER WARRANTY ONLY 3 WEEKS BEFORE...AND at 51000 miles no less. (SORRY FOR SHOUTING & SCREAMING)So....screw them, I won't be leasing a 4.6 from them...and oh guess what...they hold the Jaguar franchise here in Bedford Hills New York and I won't be getting an X-Type for the wife from them either....why??? 'Cos their service dept couldn't have given less of a shit about inconveniencing and absolutely fucking decieving me over the claim process with LRNA....enough already...I will go used next time and continue to work on my own cars. I guess when you own your own business seliing to 'customers' I naively expect the same from the motor trade....wrongo!!!!

Cory,

I have had a few problems which were coverd under the original and extened warranties. I will do my best to re-call. Replaced cracked front heated windshield, replace front engine seal, repaired small coolant leak, at the end of the extended period my check engine light came on and they did the valve ream job to minimise the carbon build up.

Now what is funny that looking at all of things here seems like a lot, but my experience is positive. This is my first Rover and I think I will alwys own at least one. Other posts talk about being in the Zone or right frame of mind. I understand what they mean. You must take pleasure in what your truck can do.

A couple of weeks ago we were in WVa and I drove up to the top of a Hill "Old Baldy" in Chalreston and did it with ease. That is the type of satisfaction you get.

The Center Diferential Lock CDL will lock the front and rear shafts. Since 2000 the Discoverys do not come with the ability to lock it from inside the truck with the linkage as the Series I's could. The transfer cases fromm 2000 thru late 2001 still have the fitting that will allow you to do this. The kit I have operates electically with a switch on the dash which ratares the nut and holds the position. There aretwo toher options. You can get a linage from a SeriesI and install it. Quite a job, or some folks here have made a lever you install and just reach under your truck to mannually slide bak and forth to operate. CDL does significantly improve your off road ability.

Hope this all helps. These are amazing vehicles that are dependable, get better with age and offer a unique ownership experience.

Cory,

In my opinion as a daily driver the DII is an excellent choice particularly if you live in nothern climate with regular snowfall. Again you must appreciate the stout buld quality and "Personality" of of the Land Rover. The high seating position gives you a commanding view of the road. Their size and weight are substantial, that equates to good saftey, poor fuel economy. They do not have as much interior volume as a Explorer or others in that class. It really is a subjective decission. GOOD LUCK!
