Yeh, Its cold. Damn Cold.

BUt the truck was at idle and the tack was revvin, up close to 2000. Then it just jumps down back to around 700 which is where it is normally. Then it revs up a few seconds later, then doesnt do anything for a while

I shut the truck off and started it again, thinking it might just be cold and needed to reste something, but it didnt help much

any ideas?

could this be VSS related?

check your alternator, The little wire with the connector keeps coming off of mine, if its not seated all the way, it fluctuates like that. If its tight, be wary of the alternator itself. Mine went after it started doing the dance first.
I think the VSS is involved if the speedometer jumps wildly.

yep...if all is tight ...sounds like the voltage regulator is going.

see josh when you start taking all the adventure gear off a truck they get mad and tormeant you with nit picky shit

I thought those were just in snowmobiles?
