Has anyone seen or tried any of the milemarker electrics? I know this has been argued back and forth before, but I finally saw an ad for the 9k and 12k winches for sale and $622 for the 12k electric seems reasonable.

That link dosent work but if you go to on line jeep parts.com you will find the 8K, 9K and 12K under catalog, winches, electric winches. That 12K winch is $622 with free shipping! The thing does have a 2 year warranty. This looks like an awesome deal to me. What does everyone else think.

Yeah, sorry about the link. The 12k winch looks much more robust than their 8k or 9k. In fact, it looks a lot like the warn 12k. I've been going back and forth between pages and the construction looks similar from what you can see in the pictures.

Shipping on the ebay deal is $30 for total of $640. On line jeep parts is still cheaper. I'm going to have to jump on this also. I wonder if this will fit in the arb non-airbag bumper for a DI?

Jeeze...this sounds almost too good to be true....

Anyway, if you guys would like to contribute, say $20 apiece, I'll do the, ummmm, *market research* for ya'....

The mounting pattern for this winch is the generic, Warn pattern of 10 by 4.5". Most winches use the same dimensions, 'cept some Ramseys....

Last time I had some disposable income that the SO wasn't aware of, I did quite a bit of resarch into various winch attributes, such as motor and gear styles, amp draw, etc.

All other things being equal, a planetary drive is not the strongest set-up, simply by how the gears are arranged. Some winches *need* steel cable as opposed to Amsteel or HMWPP line to dissipate the heat generated by the motor. This winch might be one of those. And the lower the gear ratio (I think this winch is something like 256:1) the higher the amp draw. Some of the larger Ramseys have up to 470:1, I think.... Slower for sure, but not as much of a drain on the ol' electrical system.

Still, though, this is a great price. Maybe too good to be true...I don't know anyone who has used one in anger, so I can't comment as to longevity or robustness. If I wasn't trying to save a few quid for a ski trip to Montana next month, I buy one in a heartbeat....

Cheers
