I read here about adding extra turn signals on the back of my 95 D1, so they signal like 96 to 99 d1's. I liked the idea of getting more visiblity for my signals by adding a redundant pair of direction signals in the tail lights at the rear columes, not just being in the bumper. So I popped out the plastic plugs in the light assy and put in bulb holders and nothing happened. I tried everything. I used my voltage meter and discovered that those extra holes for the redundant signal lights turn on with the brake light, not the direction signals. So instead of flashing they only work as a brake light. When I checked the voltage with just using the signal, I got a little bit of juice but not enought to light the bulb, about .6 volts. Checking the wiring verse a Hayes diagram, all of the wires look to be color matched okay, but the ones going to the signal bulb location are the same color code as the brake. Is this just a rover error or do I need to change something else? I will probably just run a jumper from the trailer wiring harness to correct the problem, but I was wondering if anyone else ran into this.

Thanks for any help

You need new lamps RH AMR-5151, LH AMR-5150 there about $30.00-$40.00 each. then you can use the trailer harness for your signal, then run a wire from the harness to the new lamps. You will also need to replace the flasher unit, with one from a 96-up, or the trailer lamp will flash with the turn signal on. you added load on the signal circuit.

All you need to do remove the lamps and open up the slot and you can put in another socket. After you open it up you can plug in the socket and it will work. I think the part number for the socket is BAU5029L. The only difference between the '95 and the newer ones is that you will have a red light.

Actually I did remove the plug and put in the lamp holder. But instead of flashing with the turn signals the lights come on with the brakes. I didn't think of the flasher unit, I'll check into that. On a 95 in europe, does that light flash?

I agree with Matt. I believe that there are a couple of locations in to add sockets to the rear tail lights on the '95, but I did not check to make sure.

My '95 did not come with turn signals in the main tail lights, they were in the bumper. I bought sockets and removed the knockout for the socket in the tail light and all was well.

All my bulb holes are filled. My impression was ever 95 all you had to do was toss in a bulb and you had an extra blinker. My just doesn't work with the turn signals, only the brakes. Maybe mine was wired wrong, just wondering if anyone else ever ran into this. How about 94 d1's are they the same as 95's?
