I have a 1996 D1 with a SG rear bumper. I need a rear recovery point. The standard shackle set that fits in the tow adapter is too long and the pin is on top. I guess I could take the hack-saw and drill to it but I was looking at other options. The only thing I could think of was the swivel shckles from SG but they so expensive. Other options I have not seen? How hard is the installation of the SG swivel shackles? |

Matt, After seeing your rig in action and seeing what the problem is, I think I can help you. I would suggest drilling out the hole, making it bigger. Then go and find a big grade 8 bolt to go in there. If you do plan to do this, get some sort of padding to put in the receiver so that you don't cut up tow straps. I *think* a standard winch hook will fit into your receiver, as it will in a normal receiver. Another option is go to Tractor supply and find/order a big enough shackle that will be wide enough for the receiver hitch. Then bore out the center hole accordingly. Another idea is use those cool little shackle mounting brackets from EE. Check them out. http://www.expeditionexchange.com/smb/ Hope this helps. Max T. |
