I have a 1997 discovery with stock pioneer radio and under passenger seat pioneer CD changer.
I want to put satellite radio in it.
MX vs. SIRIUS ?pros and cons?
what is the best way to do it?
Also on a long trip after a couple of hours the volumn slowly decreases until there is not a lot coming out to overcome the road noise associated with a Discovery.Any suggestions?
AM interference correlating to engin rpms. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for your advice
Ira

I've got XM in my '96 Discovery, wouldn't change it for the world, I absolutely love it. I haven't heard alot about Sirius but I'm sure it would work too. You can hook up to your factory deck via an FM Modulator but the quality would be lacking. My suggestion would be to buy a Pioneer/Premier aftermarket deck that is XM ready and go from there. I've got a really nice Premier MP3/CD player, and with the addition of XM I really don't have the need for carrying much music with me anymore. I drive ALOT, and can listen to Fox News, Uncensored Comedy, just about anything that I'd be listening to if I was sitting here in front of the computer... Oh well.. As far as your volume slowly decreasing on your factory system, I have not a clue other than it could be a possible problem with your deck. I'm by far not an expert on audio repair, so don't listen to me, it's just an opinion.. Peace.. RS

we sell XM and haven't had any problems with it. Read articles and XM always seems to win comparisons. First thing to check would be your antenna for the problems you are having. AM's the first to go haywire when your antenna is going out.

Ira my store sells both XM and Sirius, and I have had both installed in my Disco. I first had XM with an Alpine radio and now Sirius with Kenwood radio. I won't talk about which has better programing, but Sirius just sounds better. Sirius has is able to change bandwidth. So, music channels sound very good, but news or talk channels sound ok at best. I would like to point out that I like Alpine more that Kenwood but Sirius sound "much" better on music.

I drive cross country frequently and the only thing that saves what remains of my sanity is having XM. My partner has an Alpine system in his truck while I have the the Delphi with cassette adaptor in mine. The Delphi is great with its 5 line readout - better visability but also distracting when channel surfing.

I have XM in my truck and Disco....Love both of them. I think XM has a better selection of channels. If you are a NASCAR fan, XM is the only one with the 24 hour NASCAR channel.....Hope this helps.
