I just had the local LR dealer replace my rear Diff that was whining like crazy. The replacement unit (new) was around $384 plus labor. I had quotes for diffs for $450 used with 43000 miles on it. I was shocked that it was relatively cheap. British Atlantic want $995 for a rebuilt unit and then I would still have to install it. Has something changed with the cost of parts now that Ford has taken over? PS I used Land Rover Denver South. |

Are you talking about the 3rd member or just the stock carrier. What I think the dealer price includes is a swap to new carrier only. Rovers Land is the carrier only for 99 and it's used. BrtshAtln must be the 3rd member for that price. |

When ford took over they lower the prices ALOT on common warranty items to avoid charging themselves more. I have seen items at some aftermarket web pages that go for twice the cost of the item from the dealer now. The flip side of the coin is that they also raised the price on some parts for the D1 and RRC because they are mostly out of warranty. The diff is probably the whole 3rd member because that is one of the items ford lowered. Rocker arm shafts are another example of a part that was cut over half of the original price. I would call the dealer on some items when price shopping, you might be suprised. |
