Does anyone have a good link or suggestion for some Freeware for CD data recovery?

Plenty of downloadable freeware on the web, but so far no fully functional versions to be found.

Yes - I'm too cheap to buy on to get some pictures off one lousy fried CDR

Thanks!
Bill

I've seen in some stores a tool for repairing CD's and DVD's, for about $15 I think. I've never tried it, but I have a friend who bought one for her daughter. I'll try to remember to ask her how well it works.

This link may help, though it is aimed at recovering lost images from a flash memory card (digital camera). You may learn something of value.

Good luck, and _always_ duplicate your data storage. I do daily compressed backups to a second hard drive using Acronis True Image 6.0 (which copies EVERY file on your root drive), and regular data backups to CD-RW using MS Backup.

Good luck.

i have a memorex cd cdr cdrw dvd dvdrw disc repair tool

sounds fancy but it is just a fancy rotery polisher that removes scratches, it uses automotive polish as the polishing medium. old #7 by the smell of it. it cost about $25

it has worked wonders on scratched discs that have given the "cyclic redundancie error" message

Tooth paste will also work wonders for polishing out scratches on CD's.

And will help reduce the number of cavities on your CD's...

Thanks guys - the problem is not a physically damaged disk - just a glitch in how it was written to apparently. The repair utilities that I've downloaded find the files easily enough (1300+ files), but won't allow me to move them to my HD without paying for the software.

Any suggestions or links appreciated.

I used Ontrack EasyRecovery Personal Lite Edition, but it only allows you to retrieve 25 files at a time unless you want to pay.

I actually paid for something when I had a similar problem. Unfortunately I don't remember what I paid for or where the key is! Grrr...

Anyways, the second time I had this sort of problem, Ontrack worked fine for me.
