Hey everybody - thanks for your earlier input on my stereo question. I think I've decided to go with a completely new, aftermarket head unit and changer. Now, what I'm wondering is: will the stock HK's sound much better with the new aftermarket unit (it's like 22 Watts RMS, I believe) or am I going to be better off just replacing the stock speakers as well? And, I assume, replacing the stock amp as well? If anyone can let me know their thoughts, I would appreciate it.

Also, if you've replaced speakers, what kind/sizes did you use? I've got a 99D2 with the HK package - can anyone break down for me the sizes of each of the speakers I've got?

Finally, has anyone used the PAC SWX-I adapter to hook up the steering wheel audio controls to an aftermarket changer? I've read a lot about it and am hoping it'll work well for me. I'd love to hear from anyone who's had any experience with it. Thanks!

Duane, I'm taking the wife's D2 to the shop this morning for aftermarket deck and the PAC adapter so she won't loose her steering wheel controls. I'm planning on an amp to replace the stock one, and a sub in the rear to replace the speakers in the rear door. I'll let you know how it goes.. Later.. Rob

Anyone else care to weigh in? I'm sure there are others out there who have replaced the stock stereo and could let me know if it improved the stock HK's - or if they replaced those, with what. Any info. appreciated!

I added an amp that just runs a 12" sub in the rear, got rid of the rear door "subs" and installed an aftermarket Pioneer head unit that runs the remaining factory speakers. The front and rear speakers sound much better with the new head unit.

I have the SWI-X (SWI-X is universal unit that replaces the SWI-1 thru 3) in stock and I currently offer it to my fellow LR guys for $55 + shipping. It is an easy install and works great. Only thing you must get is an aftermarket radio that comes with an infrared remote control. Email me if you want one and if you want a quote on a stereo. I carry Pioneer, JVC, Jensen, and several others. Let me know what you are looking for and I'll get you a price if it's available.
