I am losing about .5 gallon of coolant per month. I can tell its low when heat is cold at idle.
Oil is clean.
Sometimes smell coolant in exhaust.
Have the gurgle at passengers feet.
No noticable leaks.
'01 d2 34k miles.
Any suggestions before I take it to the dealer?
Thanks

Check all of your hoses. I recently had the same problems you described, turned out to be the return hose to the radiator was a little loose at the manifold (right after the t-stat). Coolant would seep out and evaporate off, leaving little trace. I finally saw the dried "trails" from the evaporated coolant...tightened that hose and voila.

Another thing, check/replace the pressure release cap on your expansion tank. Maybe it is bleeding off pressure (e.g. steam!) below the 15 psi it's designed for. In my case, last summer in the Vegas heat, it quit functioning altogether (held in the pressure) leading to my expansion tank splitting...

Anyways, if it is a small leak, look for "mineral-like" (or similar to hard-water) deposits, both around areas where hoses attach, or on the underside of the hood above those areas. Good luck!

and look for those same whitish stains on the cats or exhaust. i had a valley pan (intake) gasket leak and it was hard to see. down the back side of the motor.

I Have been fighting coolant leaks for the past few months. I would find one and then another would appear. All the hose are fine but the cheap ass clamps Land Rover uses are the problem. F the dealer, take it to a local garage and have them pressure test the coolant system. They will be able to find all of the leaks. Or better yet make your own pressure tester and do it your self.I am in the process of doing just that. I can tell you how if you like. It is real easy. As for what hose clamps to use, go to the local hardware store and pick up the ones you need. For about $10 you can replace fust about all of the hose clamps. If you want to get fancy, get stainless steel hose clamps. Same technique work on my leaky power stearing hoses.

I have a 96 D1 with 68K

'01 with 34k, drop it at the dealer and let them worry about it. You will have plenty of time under the hood when it goes out of warranty.
