Sorry for the repost, I messed up the first one.

At 6pm here in Atlanta area, the History Channel is broadcasting a Modern Marvels episode on the 4x4

I've caught that one before, it was pretty cool but I found it strange that they covered just about every major 4x4 but made no mention of Land Cruisers

Sweet clips of the Camel Trophy!!!

Paraphrase "40% of the worlds population first encounter with a vehicle was a Land Rover"

Alex (chilly in Atlanta also)

Yeah, on watching it I realize I'd seen it before. There were a few chots of Land Cruisers, but true, not mention. I also noticed that they spent alot of time on the baja races, showing mostly 2WD buggies racing.

They also mentioned the Kublewagen, but didn't mentionit it was 2WD. Oh well...I'm a nitpicker ;-)

I caught the last 10 min. I lOVE that it was mostly Land Rovers!
Is that the one that has the Cruisers going across Antarctica? Those were some cool rigs...no pun intended...

I THINK the one w/ the cruisers going across Antarctica is something else but I do know what you are talking about. While I'm nitpicking on these shows I should add that in that one it seemed kind of silly how they showed them using the lighter fuel trick to re-set the beads on their tires (and made it seem like losing one was a common occurrence), with all the money they pumped into the trucks why not go ahead and add some bead locks?

Carter,

You will never get the chicks thinking that way! I thought the lighter fluid trick was "KEWL"! It's just like a roof top tent.....chicks really dig 'em! Think, man, THINK! LOL!

Well, the only chicks in Antarctica are penguins so unless you are like some of the degenerates around here that factor shouldn't come into play :)

I guess the lighter trick is the preferred method in Antarctica as it helps to warm up your nose...or burn off your eyebrows!

Bead locks would be nice, but then they wouldn't be able to play with fire and make little explosions. That's always a bonus!

Most expedition guides I've read, including Land Rover's, recommend using tube type tires.
Had a friend in Vermont who tried tubless during mud season. The constant burial in mud and stones kept breaking his beads. Not talking trail rides here, but every day for weeks. He went back to tube type.

The poor flightless birds never had a chance.
