I have noticed a large increase in stupid questions over the last month. And I think it is due to the large amount of pousers that are buying landrovers. As land rover sales went up so did the stupid questions. And another thing is all the people that post general shit in the technical section is stating to bother me. Also whats bothering me is the pussies out there that are on here that don't take the vehicle off road and post shit like "Where is the plug to drain the oil or my sunroof stopped working" To those people I hope the dealership screws you over and over and over. One year ago I could sit here on Discoweb for 5 hours and read every post and find some kind of insight in what everyone said, I miss the awesome flame wars we used to have. Now I can barely stand 30 minutes of Discoweb because of the stupid shit people ask and say. I hope Discoweb starts getting better.

Just had to blow some steam having a really bad day at work

You now it is bad when you are talking about mods and a guy jumps in and says my mods include

rear taillight protectors,sunshade tinted windows,
land rover steering wheel badge, wood grained panels, side running boards and cheetah wheel cover

we just bought a new 2003 Discovery and my wife likes the looks of those bar things on the front that you see on Suburbans and Expeditions. Everyone seems to have one and our Discovery doesn't.

Can the dealer obtain and install these?? Also would a winch be helpful on days that it snows??

Thanks.

What I know I learned from DWeb. Now, it can be tiresome reading the same threads over and over but sometimes there's something new to learn. We're always learning and trying different stuff around here. Maybe the tech board could be expanded to specific folders i.e. Lighting, Tires, Suspension, Bumpers, etc. I think that most people do not complete a search before posting (I'm guilty).
Just a thought. I'm happy either way...

another problem is people who fuckin post a problem right away and don't even look at there rig before they start to fix a problem. I mean diagonosis is one thing but when a switch stops working and you post your question and the only thing wrong is a blown fuse is just ridiculos. But Jack I do somewhat agree with you and I am always happy to see questions that deal with mods like what problems am I going to run into when installing a lift.

Every bulletin board I've ever been on inevitably faces this issue. All the ole timers start whining about newbies asking the same questions over and over. It's like your favorite underground band making it big time, you hate all the new fans because they aren't 'real' fans. It happens, get over it. This is supposed to be a resource for Disco owners, there are Disco owners of all experience levels. To some, checking a simple fuse is actually adventuring into unknown territory. Some simply don't have the slightest idea how vehicles work. We should not sit here on our high horses and scoff at them, but perhaps attempt to educate, and in the process we may just convert them from mere owners to enthusiasts. If you are truly bothered by it, direct them to the search button, or just don't read it! Is this enough of a flame for you bandwagon???

you're very lucky. could have been much worse. your dixon-bate recover point coter pin chain seems to be hanging down. these have been known to get hung up on logs, rocks, small pebbles, etc. and tear entire front ends off of trucks. next time lets be a little more careful. just be glad no one was injured.

Know what burns my ass? (besides Big Daddy!) When whiny complainers hide behind made up names! Other than that, this is a hilarious thread!

By the way, what does CDL mean? and why doesn't my '99 Disco II have it?

Also, why does a D1 roof rack on a D2 truck make someone look like a poseur?

CDL is short for Comercial Drivers License. You need one of those if you are going to drive your Land Rover on TV.

PS. if you're just driving your Land Rover on the radio, the Feds recently rulled that a CDL *learners* permit will suffice. PROVIDED you aren't driving with cross drilled brake lines or piston return springs. I guess it's the added power thing or something.

ROTFLOLOLOL! Now, this thread is a LOT better than so many of the hot-air driven threads we've had on this site lately. Sorry you were having a lousy day Bandwagon, but without your lousy day we wouldn't have this little gem.

Now, a serious question: Which do you boys find works best, Midol or Midol PM?

The manager of a general store is teaching a new kid how to sell customers more than they actually need. “I’ll show you what I mean,” he whispers as a guy walks in asking for lawn seed.

“Here you go,” says the manager.

“And you’ll be wanting a lawn mower, right?”

“Why’s that?” the guy asks.

“You’ll need to cut the grass after the seeds grow.”

Amazingly, the guy buys one. When another man enters and asks for a pack of Tampax, the manager winks at the boy, who says, “Of course, sir. And I suppose you’ll be needing a lawn mower?”

“Why would that be?” asks the puzzled customer.

“Well, your weekend’s screwed, so you might as well mow the lawn.”

I must be one of the people "bandwagon" is talking about. I purchased a 97XD about a year ago after owning several Jeeps.

I decided that there must be a better vehicle than Jeep, and LR was first on my list. Being familiar with the Camel Trophy events, I was excited to find an XD in mint stock condition. At the point of purchase, I very little about the mods that were available for Disco's or what they were really capable of. Needless to say, it took a year of driving it stock to finally decide to modify it. I was so impressed with the stock capabilities that I did not need to modify it for the trips I frequently took to Baja.

After spending far too much time on DWEB at work, I got the bug to start adding the mods so that I could start joining the LR club trips. It was a result of all the information I read on DWEB that helped me set up my Disco with suspension, bull bar, sliders, etc. I thank all the DWEB experts for their knowledge and opinions.

Now that my XD is ready to hit the trails, I am unfortunately experiencing other problems of which I have posted in the "technical" section asking for feedback on the problems.

I may be wrong, but I thought that is what this site was all about? Then again maybe not, maybe some of the serious LR guys don't really want others on this board that can't weld or change a part out right on the trail!

I have learned almost everything I know about my Disco from this site and have done all the mods either myself or with folks I have met on this site to my Disco. I would consider myself fairly experienced when it comes to off-road driving and making minor to medium sized modifications or repairs.

Hopefully there is some patience and consideration for others like myself. I am sure the rest of you who are no doubt total experts on the Disco had to start from the beggining yourselves.

Thanks DWEB...

Well Todd, that added NOTHING to the PMS thread! LOL! Even though you got us back on topic (hey, how long can THAT last???), I agree completely. I teach riding, so that means I repeat myself endlessly until my pupils "get it", and then I go on to the next endless repetition. Putting sound fundamentals on a student of anything is important, even if it makes some folks impatient. This site is about learning, sharing and goofin', and can only benefit with the addition of people new to the Land Rover "experience".

Karen, blame away, Bryan :)

To all who support the "newbies" ... well said. Those of us with kids experience simplistic, repetitive questions, sometimes with answers so obvious we don't know whether to laugh or pop our head like a zit. Hopefully we, more so than not, take the time to seriously answer the kid so that (a) they learn, (b) they aren't afraid to ask the next question, (c) and they learn how to teach someone else.

One way you know you're knowledgeable is if other people ask you questions and respect your answers (i.e., take heed or come back for more). Unfortunately, the more you know, the wider the gap between you and a rookie. So, either smile :) and answer their question(s) or take some Midol and chill.

I'm more put off by the "which fraternity were you in", or "how many of us are teenagers with Discos", or "how many safaris have you taken", or "why Barbour coats are so superior", or "what type of boat do you own", threads that seem to have shown up a lot on the general section lately. New owner questions are new owner questions, you'll always have'em. The more people who buy discos and wheel them, the more LRNA will see that is a viable market segment. People giving each other shit occasionally, who cares. But maybe we should start an "Ego Stroking" section, and then it would be easier to find the stuff actually related to Discos in the "General" section.
My flaming .02.

I wonder if the rocks are real, or just imitation rocks? they look like they are washed daily, along with the nicely laid tile, so at least they're clean rocks.

you should have captured a LR salesman clad in safari gear in the background for the full effect, but funny nonetheless.

Being somewhat of a newbie myself, I've asked my share of stupid questions and humbly appreciated the answers. I also try to occasionally answer the stupid questions when they come up to leave the more knowledgeable people time to answer the really tough ones.

My skill runs out around the point of "how do I defilibrate my magneto-nuclear flux inhibitors?" or pretty much any post with the words "Tr a nny" or "ste a lership".
