I recently removed my LR OEM brush bar with the factory LR lights mounted on it. However, these lights will only turn on when the headlights are turned on.

I have installed an aftermarket bull bar and will be mounting 2 Hella 500 driving lights on the bar. the simplest way to connect them would be to use the existing wire harness from the factory lights. This would allow me to use the factory button inside as well...nice and easy!

My question is...is there any simple bypass that would allow me to use the Hella's without having to turn on my headlights? Or would I need to re-wire them with the Hella wiring kit?

There are two things that come to mind. #1 you'd need to pull the switch inside and determine which wire supplied power to the switch when the headlight switch was on. Then cut that wire and wire it to a source that is either hot w/the key on or constant hot depending on when you want to turn the lights on and fuse it w/a 10 amp fuse. #2 you would want to wire a 30 amp relay to the output of that switch (out by the lights would be sufficient). That relay would be wired directly to the battery + with the recommended fuse size for your lights. The relay will power the lights while the OEM switch/fuse will only be required to power the relay which draws less than 1/2 amp. The relays I use have 5 terminals, 4 are used which would be wired as follows. #85 ground, #86 OEM light switch, #30 battery + w/fuse, #87 to your Hella's

If LR installed the lights originaly; look at the wire wire coming out of the pass. head light. There should be a wire tap that they put in on the low beam wire. That wire activate a relay when you turn on your lights and when you turn on your high beams it turns off. anyway that is where the LR dealer usally draws it switching power for the relay. cut that wire and put it to a power source that is hot when the ignition is on; then your lights will work anytime you push the button.
