I just replaced my plugs with NGK's, new 8mm wires, and a new VSS.

All of a sudden today, my speedometer does not work, and my Disco stalled twice while coming to a stop at a light.

What happened...?

Sounds like your alternator went south.

Sorry, brain cramp (I thought I read tachometer).

I'd check your VSS. I've had mine out and I found it a little tricky to get the cog lined up when re-installing.

As hard to reach as it is, maybe you're off or your connection came undone.

Would the new plugs or wire size have anything to do with the stalling?

Hopefully others on this board with more knowledge will chime in but I'd guess that if your speedo isn't working the stalling is somehow related. Rovers tend to rely on the speedo to regulate the fuel and ignition systems so if the speedo isn't working, other systems aren't getting the correct input to adjust fuel/spark, and stalling would be a pretty likely symptom.
If the last things you touched were plugs, wires and VSS, it would seem more likely that the VSS is misbehaving.

Thanks Jim...it ran fine the first time I drove it after the installs, that is why it seems strange to happen a coupld of days later.

Hey Todd,
Further down on this board Jason Vance posted this response to a thread entitled "Why is my truck doing this?"

The conversation turned to VSS's and Jason wrote this:

"I could be wrong, and maybe somebody wants to kick me while I'm speaking, but the vehicle speed sensor is only used in conjuction with the stepper motor (oh, yeah...forgot about the speed "governor," too). The VSS lets the ECU know whether a "closed throttle" event is occurring simultaneously with the vehicle slowing down (e.g. coming to a stop at a red light) or while the vehicle is already stopped. If the vehicle is still moving, as the VSS would detect, the ecu would operate the stepper motor differently than while the vehicle is already stopped. VSS problems includes the vehicle stalling when coming to a stop because the ECU controlled the stepper motor incorrectly."

I'd check that VSS man, bad one out of the box?

Very Interesting, I wonder if there is a way to test the VSS?

I will check to see if anything has come loose, however I don't think you can install this piece wrong, it only goes on one way.

Darn...just when I thought I had fixed all the little problems, everything goes haywire!

I also noticed today that my idle speed is much lower, around 400 rpm's. Can this also be related to the VSS or the plugs/wires?
