most auto-parts stores will have a brake line extender that you can rent or borrow since that is a pretty common thing

Bob,

You should be able to move the front brake lines to the rear as they are the same length as the ones rovertym provided for my rear, then you just need to purchase extended front lines.

For the ABS I purchased some used lines and created some extensions that plug into the current lines so they can be removed later. they have been on for about 7 months and have worked fine so far. I soldered them and use shrink tubing to keep the water out.

Others have cut the lines and spliced wire into the stock lines, but I know several people have had problems with this and it is not easy to put it back to stock.

Bob,
Not sure about the ABS lines, but for brake lines, if you are going to go through the trouble you may as well get something worth putting in.

Dave,
Got any pictures? That sounds like a good idea you got there. What did the parts run you? I assume you had to go cut them out of a wreck.

Hi Josh,

Here is the only pic I have, it is the before pic, as you can see they are just cut out of a wrecked DII and I just connected the ends together and soldered/ shrink tube them. The best part of doing it this way is they can be removed at any time.

The parts cost wayyyyy too much, but I was in a pinch and did not want to cut into the stock lines, but I think it was money well spent.

Just take the lines to a brake shop and have them stretch the brake lines, they may do it for nothing. Goodluck

Bob,

You dont really need to extend your brake lines. They will stretch long enough to suffice. Anyway, longer brake lines do nothing to boost your offroad-ability, so why do it!

Easy fix: Go to your local auto parts store and ask for a brake line lengthener. Most shops will rent this device for a fee that you will be able to refund once you return the lengthener.

Cartner,
I am 99.9% sure than Bob has a DII, when I lifted my DII 3 inches with Rovertym the brake and ABS line were tight sitting on the flat ground, if I were to take it off-road with out making them longer they would have been destroyed. The ABS lines are sealed in the hub and if you destroy the ABS line you will need to replace the entire hub. Granted Bob may not have flex that I do from the long shocks and sway bar disconnects if he went with standard OME shocks.

Earl and Richard,

How in the hell can you safely extend the rubber brake lines on a DII without purchasing new ones? I want to see a pic of this magical tool!

Dave, please don't respond to them(him). They(he) have(has) nothing better to do.

I just hate seeing someone get bogus info to a valid question.

What a bunch of crap. Do they actually think that I'm gonna be stupid enough to ask for a brake line stretcher or lengthener. I grew up in the construction industry and our joke for "newbies" was to look for a Skyhook. What a bunch of knuckleheads. Also, I do have the DII. I put in HD Springs with 1.5" spacers in the rear and DI springs in the front, so now Im concerned about pulling them loose while wheelin.

How do you install the brake line stretcher, with a left handed monkey wrench?

No, a left handed crescent wrench!

If the lines are rubber you better heat them before you stretch them or they wont stay stretched.

Dave,

You should not feel bad about them costing way too much, cause since you bought them from me 7 months ago, I have yet to find another set. :)

I paid $100 for mine.

And that was almost two years ago.

I don't remember what Dave gave me for them now, but I reluctantly sold them as he seemed very desperate to get a set for a trip. Now, I can't seem to find anymore myself. :) Although, I don't really need them right now either.

I will email you soon Greg about the D2 parts. I got your last email. Just haven't checked yet to make sure I can use them both.

No worries.

Paid $80 for my ABS extenders off a wreck; and have yet to get them to actually work properly. Messing with the ABS electrical system is hit or miss.

There is a guy on the yahoo D2 board in Australia that has a source for them from the company that manufactures them but I haven't looked into it further.

Also, the front stock ABS lines(at least on my rig) are plenty long enough for 3" lift no sways. Its the rear lines that are kinda tight.

Greg P,

No worries, like I said the money I paid was well worth it. I appreciate that you were nice enough to help me out when i was in a pinch by selling me yours.
