I thinking about get an off-road trailer and wondered if anyone had one? If so, what brands/option do people like?

I have been looking at the
http://www.4x4trailers.com/ website. Does anyone have one of these?

Don't know about ready made, but soon as the weather warms a bit, I'm going to start building my own, but that's because I'm a cheap SOB

Are you wanting a serious rock crawler trailer or just one that you can haul around on nasty forest roads?

I really didn't need the former - I did need to be able to haul camping gear and mountain bikes back to primitive campsites.

I really liked the 4x4trailers rigs, but I ended up with this:

And this is what I would REALLY like to have:

those all look pretty cool, but if I was going to take the time to build a offroad trailer I'd use a pintel like the military trailers .

in pursuit of musky I access some pretty crazy boat landings. over the years I have bent a number of tongues and hitch sockets by flexing them past there limits. pulling one on super tough trails would do a standard hitch in pretty fast .

Here is another off-pavement trailer site www.sport-trailers.com

Already have a very overbuilt 4x8 trailer for hauling things. I am seriously considering making wheel adapters for it. Then I can use the grey 5 spoke wheels that originally came on my RR on the trailer. Anybody else put LR wheels on their trailer? Don't try to talk me out of it. I'm going to put RR wheels on my trailer.

that hitch looks really cool, I dont know if having the trailer roll over is good..lol but yes that is much better then a ball and socket.

Sankey 3/4 Ton - £150-200 in UK ($250-330 US) Should be able to refund the VAT bc of exporting it.

I don't know how freight would be for it but I am sure someone in the US carries them....

For anyone looking for an M416 style trailer, these are in the best condition of any I've come across.

Having done a good bit of offroading with trailers of vasrious sorts...If you aren't doing extreme stuff, a ball is fine. For extreme, yes, a pintle, but one that swivels, or make sure the lunette swivels. If neither does, you'd be better off with the ball hitch. The drawback to pintel hitches is the clunking you get. The lunette isn't a snug attachment to the pintel, so there is much more movement between the parts, and you get alot of clunking.

I've wheeled with an M416, (or at least the Canadian version of the same thing). They can follow your truck almost anywhere, as long as you have a properly operating pintle that fully rotates. Nice to have all of the camping gear out of the truck, once you set up camp and want to go wheel.

Better price from White Owl, same trailer.

Thom, I did the same..well, similar. I used mine for hauling wood, so it wasn't as nice looking. Liked that the hubs took L/R wheels.
I built mine also with a 6" pipe toungue. I cut 6" holes through the crossmmbers, and welded it to the rear cross member, in addition to each one it passed though.
Sadly I didn't have a way to move it from VT, and sold it for $50.
