I have taken it apart but I can't remember exactly how...i did break the front off the coin tray though, a little bit of epoxy plastic weld on the inside fixed that though. It took me a while to find what what holding everything in but I am pretty sure it was just some screws hiding. The cup holders and ashtray come out as one piece. Pull off the control knobs from the "heater controls" and the slide knob and then take out the screws under the knobs....the faceplate will then come off. Keep taking the screws out but just remember where they went.

Joshua, I have a 95 Disco and need to get the radio out. Could you explain how to remove it? I have been told that you can get two small allen keys and just push them in, and the radio pops out. When that didn't work I asked the dealer and he told me it required a special tool and you had to use this tool like an allen key and turn once inserted into the holes.

Jss,
Getting the radio out os pretty easy

You can use one of those small phillips head screw drivers, or a rea small allan wrench.

There are two holes, one on each side of teh radio. While you are pushing the radio in to the dash, you have to unsrew those allen bolts. They dont come out, they just loosen and stop. Then just grab the thing by the tape deck, and yank it out.
if it doesnt come you should check a few things:

Make sure those screws are backed all the way out and sometimes, you might have to loosen them, then tighten them and loosen them again

You dont need a special tool, on the newer rovers i think you do, but mine is a 97, probably identical to your 96. That is the dealers saying," you need to schedule an apointment so we can do it and charge you 100 bucks"

I dont knwo the exact size of allen wrench it took, but Ihvae on eof those allen sts that fold up, and iut was one of teh smaller ones.

Hope that helps

Don, you should provide the directions as a tech article! It's all about sharing and helping here. Just my $.02

Just a few weeks ago I replaced the heater core and pipes in my '95. About an 8 or 9 hour job for me, who'd never none it before. Required complete removal of the dash, just to get at the core.

What are you trying to get at? There are several harnesses, one, as Don says, behind the heater matrix, one behind the cup holder/coin tray unit. I highly advise using the shop manual as a guide, depending on what you are trying to do.

There are two screws at the top of the fascia that are always missed as they require an offset screwdriver to get at (they go vertically up from above the radio). The shop manual isn't much help as it runs you around the barn just to get the damned dahsboard apart.

The truly funny part is the estimating guide says it should only take 1.45 hours!

Lower the bolster beneath the steering wheel, remove the styrofoam. The harness is right there-if it is in your truck. Avoid any wires sheathed in yellow at the peril of blowing an airbag.

Peace,
Paul

Paul, 1.45 hours for what? Removing the entire dash? It took me a bit more than that ;-)

Not sure about the screws you're referring to. I didn't need an offset screwdriver for any. But my *arms* were definately offset after the job.

It really made me apprciate *again* my series rigs LOL

I plan on installing the 6 switch panel in place of the coin holder above the ash tray. Any tips or tricks on removal? I want to do this right.
thanks

Jack, so you need to remove the ooin holder? If that's all, it, and the clock as well, are held in with little plactic tabs on the top and bottom. You need a thin putty knife, the width of the coin holder. Narrower or wider will work with some finagalling.
Grip the coin holder and while pulling slightly on it, insert the putty knife blade into the slot just above ite tray. You should feel the tabs release. Then do the same in the gap just under the try. It should pop out then.
Cheers
