Final part of my project!! Can anybody out there give me the 'definitive' method of connecting two Yellow Top Optimas? Bought from Trek Outfitters, included in the kit is a NW Power 'Wrangler' 200Amp Relay. Relay has Coil Neg & Coil Pos (small terminal posts) and two other large terminal posts. I presume this is going to be switched by the coil for heavy duty starting? Anybody used the Hellroaring items? I need a blow by blow connection diagram! I will be connecting in a Warn winch also. How do you want them conencted? You want them isolated, or always connected. I hooked mine up with an isolator because I don't want to run the risk of draining my starting battery when winching. Also, I run accessories off my deep cycle battery and if I leave something on overnight, or for several days, I don't want my starting battery being drained. So, more detail on what you want would help in providing assistance. |

tuck one of these under the hood, then you also have a security switch if need be.you can get them online or at most better boating supply shops

If both batteries are connected wouldn't you have to reset you radio security if you turn it off? Maybe I am missing what this actually does. How pricey are those? |

yep...and the clock aswell if it was turned off for any length of time. they cost about $35 |

Use the solenoid relay as supplied by Wrangler. I had one in my Toy 4X4 and it worked like a charm. I had a forklift battery connected to the OEM and it just about powered everything including a 1000W amp for my ham radio. There are two terminals on top and that is where your (+) posts for each battery is connected. Then connect the negative(-) terminals of your battery to the ground. Make sure you use a good quality heavy gage wire (minimum 4 AWG but 0 AWG is better). The bottom terminal is the power for the solenoid switch so it is best to connect that in your ignition switch. Basically the auxillary battery is stand alone when the ignition is off to prevent discharging your main battery for starting. When you turn the ignition on both batteries are connected to the alternator so it will charge. All your accesories i.e. winch, transmitter, power tools, etc. should be connected to the auxillary battery to prevent drainage on your main battery. HTH. FWIW, if you haven't bought anything yet, just wiring two yellows in parallel seems to work pretty well. I've only had it for a little while but it seems pretty darn good. I generally go out with other people so I can get jumped by others if I actually manage to kill both (read unlikely) but I also carry one of those jump boxes. Whatismore I wired all my accessories to the primary (position) battery so that if I really wanted to isolate one battery for a trip by myself, I could just disconnect the second one and reconnect it if I needed it. It does keep things simple and you don't have to worry about your isolator failing or overheating. It's sort of an oldschool way to do things, but a lot of people have found it sufficient. good luck either way. (enjoy running those cables) |

Jeremy, I recently did a Hellroaring install with dual Odyssey batteries if you want to check it out. It's a little more complicated than a relay or conventional isolator, but worth the effort IMHO. http://www.landroverstuff.com/odyssey.htm Steve |
