I noticed a post a while ago about people's music taste, in particular the Greatfull Dead, no comment. I was wondering if anybody out there was a punk fan? I can't ever get enough of it, keeps me sane

Punk's not dead
It just deserves to die
When it becomes another stale cartoon
A close-minded, self-centered social club
Ideas don't matter, it's who you know
If the music's gotten boring
It's because of the people
Who want everyone to sound the same
Who drive bright people out
Of our so-called scene
'Til all that's left Is just a meaningless fad

I listen to 7 seconds, Meatmen, Cramps, Circle Jerks, Storm Troopers of Death, SNFU, Meat Puppets, Dead Kennedies, and that kind of crap every once in a while. Mostly old punk from the 80s not really into any new stuff.

"I had 26 friends in the beginning
but now it seems our numbers are thinning
Some people drive fast others love to bet
still others snort coke in a private jet.
But drinking bleach is my way of winning. "

One of my favorite bands of all time... The Dead Milkmen

I think I should sell my rover for a "...bitchen Camero ..."

Damn I love the dead milkmen, this tread makes me want to dig out my 80's punk tapes and fall in love with a "..punk rock girl.." I drifted away from punk but every now and then I get back into it, kind of how I listen to the dead

Back in the '70's the band I was in opened for the Ramones. Must have been 1979, if my memory serves me! I used to spend a good bit of time downtown at CBGB's and Max's Kansas City. Wow, if that's not a lifetime ago!

How about the Buzzcocks, the Damned and the Stranglers? Back in those days Elvis Costello was easy listening compared to some of these guys.
In another direction, is anyone into The Residents?

How about Joy Division before Ian Curtis offed himself and they morphed into New Order? Sonic Youth, the godfathers of indy rock. Pavement, the real alternative to Seattle Grunge.

My CD changer is like a Pizza Hut Supreme Distortion Pizza

Sex Pistols are one of my all time favorite bands. I still play the crap out of N.M.T.B,H.T.S.P.

Then I jump around. Not really old style punk but I just got into The Donna's which I guess are being called new punk. Then over to old industrial like OLD Ministry & NIN and a shot of The Refused with a smidgen of LOA techno.

No easy flow in there.

I find it almost impossible to listen to the old school punk now.:( I used to set up shows during my 5.5 yrs in college, 80s bands like DRI, CoC, Agnostic Front, MDC, SNFU, White Flag, etc. Biggest show was Replacements, best ever was Raw Power (from Italy), they absolutely blew the roof off. Guess I'm getting old, but the Dickies, Germs, Ramones, Clash (RIP Joe) and a few others are still fun.

Le Tigre has to be one the most punk bands nowadays in spirit anyway, completely abrasive lesbian electronica-punk. Cool shit.;)

The greatest band on Earth is The Flaming Lips. Been a fan since 1984, they keep getting better.

Bravo, gentleman. A comprehensive list indeed. But you forgot the QUINTESSENTIAL hardcore band:

Minor Threat

Also give credit where credit is due.

Iggy Pop.

He was punk before punk was, well, punk.

How about The Velvet Underground and Lou Reed especially? Television, Richard Hell, Johnny Thunder, anything No Wave. Anybody out there that was even alive let alone around downtown NYC in '76, '77 or '78?
