Jess,

The genuine is a large decal. After awhile, they fade, peel, crack, etc.

A lot of people paint it instead, which has a better end-result, IMHO.

Check with your nearest LR dealer. I just visited mine in Nashville and they pulled out the whole Land Rover Discovery XD page and looked everything up. They should be able to help but it won't be cheap. I'm guessing at least $300.

Welcome - Just joined the Disco club a few weeks ago and the "yellow fever" is still clouding up my mind. I thought I might miss my RR LWB but it hasn't happened yet - probably never will! The Discovery rocks!

Find a place locally that does vinyl stickers and car coverings (advertsiements). These are better quality than the LR sticker and are removable down the road.

Yes, as David said you can get them at any LR dealership. I have seen them for about 100.00 dollars, or somewhere in that area. However, Land Rover does not package them very safe and most of them come into the dealership with wrinkles that look horrible once on the hood. The warehouse for Rover is or recently was being moved to make parts easier to get a hold of for America and they should be doing packaging better soon or easier to talk to and explain the problem. Someone in the body shop is the usually the best person to talk to because they will know of this problem, because they have had to put them on before. Good luck

That was probably installed. They are a pain in the ass to install. I tried one once, and it had so many bubbles I tore it off. At least I bought it cheap. If you really want the sticker, a decal shop is the way to go. Flat black Krylon for me, however. Maybe with some of that rubberized stuff so that rocks glasses won't keep sliding off.

Greg, your getting raped with that price.
The Hood black out decal is listed in LR parts book as being part of the XD sticker package but can be bought seperatly. The guide lists the decal at $109. They may have quoted you the decal and install charge to get it up that high. Just for giggles, which one gave you that price?

Someone told me that you should float the sticker over a drop of dishwashing detergent diluted in plain water on the install of these stickers. Just a drop of detergent to a couple of cups of water - just enough to keep the water from beading off the hood.

This way you should be able to "float" the decal into position, anchoring the sticker at the top of the hood closest to the windshield. Then you squeegee (sp.?) the water out from underneath, eliminating any bubbles. I heard this from someone who had installed on a 110 with this method and can't confirm it - but folks say a dry install is nearly impossible without bubbles.

It sounds like you're not going to be able to paint your parents truck, so if you do the sticker let us know how you install it?

Cheers,

e

Actually Windex works the best to float the sticker and it does not harm the paint as a deterent is likely to do over time. I've used it to put on 2' x 2' stickers, but never something as big as a hood decal. I've tried other products and have found only Windex does the job.

Thanks,
Mike B.

P.S. - I don't work for Windex.

Can you get these stickers with an almost "rubber" like texture?

I made a shot off the bonnet of my Disco last night, and the two legs of the bipod have left two small marks on the bonnet from the recoil.

If I can get one (or one fitted) in the UK, I would be a great help.

Horness,

Don't know about the "rubberized" texture, but I bought my hood decal over there when I went to Billing in 2000. I bought mine from the dealership in Coventry......it was only 28 pounds if I remember correctly. You can have them installed at places that do window tinting.....they did an excellent job on mine.
Just thought I would throw that out there :)

Chris
