Hey guys, I haven't been here in a long time. Hope all is well w/ the regulars... I need to change out my front brakes. I've got a haynes manual and as you all know its not the greatest help. I checked the tech section but couldn't find a write-up. It looks pretty straight forward but I've got a couple questions. 1. Do I need to buy new gaskets for the Driving member??? 2. Do I really need to check the half-shaft end float if I'm not removing the half shaft and only replacing the rotors??? Thanks in advance. Lynden |

If you're also replacing rotors, then it is a bit more involved, but 1) no you don't rel=ally need drive member gaskets unless you're a purist - RTV works just fine. 2) No - as long as you replace the shims behind the circlip (front axle only) with what came out, generally you'll be OK. Just keep all the parts seperate side to side. Th reason the manual mentions all that is that to replace the rotor, you must remove the caliper, the drive flange, the hub/rotor assembly. This is a good time to check/repack and replace any wheel bearings if necessary and check for scoring on the stub axle. You'll also need new oil seals for the hub. BTW - if you're only replacing pads - none of this applies. Just remove wheel, pull out old pads and put in new (short version) Bill Bill |
