Hey there. I'm due to leave on a road trip in a few hours and my battery has finally decided to croak on my. I went to Advance Auto to get a new one but they say they don't carry it. Does anyone have an item number or know of a battery for another vehicle that will fit in a '96 Discovery? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I would recommend upgrading to Optima (red top), but I would think any battery with enough CCA (cold cranking amps) would be ok, somewhere in the ballpart of 550CCA.

A battery is a battery, just need one that is 12 volts, will fit in the huge hole in the corner, and has the post the correct way. Positive to positive, negative to negative, and not on the side. On the CCA topic its all about how much you want to spend. I do have the Optima Red Top because I didn't want to spend $171 on the Yellow Top. The battery is probably the only thing short of blinker fluid that you don't need a part number for.

Thanks for the help guys. I ended up at Carquest and found what I needed. You can always rely on a Raleigh based company to help...

As for the technical part, I understand batteries are batteries. Why the hell then does Advanced Auto not have a battery listed that fits the Disco? The guy wouldn't even sell me another one. Said it was, "Too risky." Geeze.

Anyway, thanks again.

i just got a battery there... they had 5 to choose from standard plus various optima ones. if they dont want to play ball, then lie about the make and model of your car until you get something. the tray in the disco is pretty big and will take most any size.
