Hi All,

I have just connected a 12v outlet to the two spare wires in behind the tail light trim. The wires next to the trailer socket. I understand that these are unswitched & unfused, can any one else confirm this for me? Anyways now have a nice 12v outlet. I also put in a 15Amp inline fuse, although come to think of it I dont know what the wiring is rated for. It seems to be about 1.5 maybe 2mm2 wire. If any one knows what these are rated to I would be grateful to know. I really want to run a 12v Engel, i think requiring <3 Amps running and up to 6 Amps on startup... Any advice fron the council appreciated.

Cheers
Roly

They are fused to the fuse for the trailer harness. One of the wires gets power all the time, the other gets power only when you are in reverse. I would't run an Engel off of it but I have never tried either.

Thanks Carter,

I simply have an outlet at the moment that runs my 12v flouro well. I am not sure about using it for the fridge. I think I will install a dual bettery system and wire directly off that for the fridge...thanks for your help though

I'm getting ready to do the same thing, I'm planning on running a fused unswitched 12v line to the back of the truck for the Engel and such.

FWIW, I've had the ENgel on the single battery system now for quite some time, even left it on for two days straight, and still it's never discharged the battery. THey're amazingly efficient little buggers.

Michael,

I was also planning for the time being to run an Engel on a single battery (Optima Red Top). What battery were you running the Engel off of?

I have also run my Engel off a single battery (Yellow top) for quite some time without draining the battery. I ran separate fused and unswitched line to the rear directly from the battery.

Stock 99 D2 battery...which is still in the car! I expected it to die by now, but even when it was around 4 degrees F recently, it performed flawlessly. Of course, now I've jinxed it....

FWIW, when I get my winch on here in a couple of weeks, I'm going with a dual Red Top setup with the solenoid "isolator" wired to the ingition.
