Probably a stupid mistake on my part but...
This morning when I went unlock the D1 with the key fob nothing happened. I have only had it for a month so I don't really know the inticacies

A. I manually unlocked the truck with the key
B. The alarm went on Beep Beep Horn noise
C. I put the key in the ignition but it is immobilised (wont start)
D. I swore rude words
E. I called a couple of Land Rover dealers
who said basically bring it in, we can probably look at it late next week??
F. I got new batteries for the key fob (no difference) truck won't react anymore.
G. There must be a way to reset the alarm system but I can't find it anywhere.

Any help appreciated...

Maybe disconnect the [vehicle] battery and let it sit for a few minutes before reconnecting?

The keyless entry remote may need to be re-programmed...I think the dealer wants about $100 to do it or you can try this (says for 94,95 models though?):

did u try putting the key in the door and locking and unlocking it? that might work. With most d1s if you lock it with the transmitter, you must unlock it with the transmitter, or else you will set off the alarm. Sounds like thats what happened to you.

just relock the doors should turn it off

then replace the batteries in the key fob and stand next to the truck and push the button three times all will be well.

freaking dealers??? yea bring it in we'll take some money from you

just thought of something....i decribed process for 94 95 D1 with single button key fob

you may need too go to the dealer if it is a newer 2 button fob.

its america, dont take your truck to the dealer if you dont want to.but it really is not a free society.the dealers are required to have training and meet standards set forth by lrna.they might also have employees and taxes to pay.you probably dont like this, but it cost what it sounds like you expect to pay for advice;nothing.i dont know about you,but i have to work to earn a living.i do that work in the automotive repair field.i have daily phone contact with people who expect me to be able to repair or diagnose their vehicle over the phone.most are of sufficent intelligence to be able to understand, after an explanation, that it is impossible.more than likely your description of the malfunction was incomplete at best.just a look at this board shows many different thoughts.if it werent for the dealers we would not have our beloved vehicles.if you dont like the price, fine.shop for free advice elsewhere.im quite sure some of it will be worth what it cost.but just my 2cw.

Dealers are there for someone to buy my vehicle new for $34,000 plus add $7k in accesories then turn around and sell it to me for under $12k about 5 years later :-)

Yeah, LIKE HERE! johnb, I don't know you, and I don't begrudge someone a living, but if someone is capable of doing something themselves, then why not let them do it?? Plus, in the US, there aren't dealers in every town... it's a 2-hour drive to get to the nearest dealer from where I live, and, their service dept. isn't open on weekends, so, I'd have to take a day off to deal with the dealers. No thanks, not over a frickin' fob... And, noticing that this fella is in Australia, it could very likely be 3 or four times further to get to a dealer for him...

anton,
It depends on whether it's the earlier one-button key-fob or the later two-button key-fob as to what needs to be done. Also, I have to admit that I don't know if their fobs are identical, or perhaps different (I know that some things vary on Aussie-spec vehicles from US-spec, but I don't know exactly what all may be different, or not...)...

A little more info, and we might be able to help....

Thanks guys for the help,
I went out this morning and did what Gil said and that worked a treat. Lock and unlock key fob works. (Thanks Gil and others for your replys)
But when your're trying to do stuff with the alarm blaring and the neighbours peering at you and the nazi cyclists yelling at you to shut the fricking thing off... well you just don't think as straight... ommm grasshopper ommm ... in future.

Thanks Guys this board rocks.

hey leslie i dont care if he is in asutralia. want to fix it for nothing,go ahead.it just seems to me that those damed dealers are to blame for all of the vehicles problems.i wish i was a trust fund baby so i could complain about the cost of everything, without knowing what it costs to keep a buisness going.dont blame the dealers, blame their employees for wanting to be paid.are you a full time volunteer? man it sure would be nice not to have to work for a living.

Quite the opposite, johnb.... My paycheck is mostly gone before I see it... I know what it costs to keep businesses going, I see my parents and my friends trying to make ends meet on what they make.... I'm not a trust-fund Rangie-driver: I'm coming up from the other side... have an old Series, and buy used Discos... I know I can't afford to pay $75/hour to do what I can do for myself on my Saturdays....

+++++++++++++++++++++++

anton,
Glad you have it under control.....

And Leslie, you are one of the most even-tempered people on this bb, IMO.

Karen, self-employed and not a trust-fund baby, either! :)

lol, if only that were true.....

Seriously, I have a really BAD temper. It's a Bright-thing... dad, me, my kids, we have to work on keeping our short fuses under control. It drives Laura nuts.... I remember the first time our oldest kid threw a Bright fit... this isn't a normal temper-tantrum, it's a tantrum cubed... Laura's jaw dropped in shock, watching this little adorable 2-year old girl throwing a conniption fit to the point that she couldn't even speak, she was so furious.... Laura thought I had been exaggerating how bad it can be up 'til then.... Alex does it too. It wasn't as much of a shock since she had seen Mandy do it by then....

I'm usually capable of remaining cool-headed, even though I'm wanting to pop... It's mostly out of embarrassment, actually... kinda the thing you don't want to do in public...

Anyway.......
