Every so often my 96 V8 disco wont start. This has only occurred a few times in hot weather when the air con has been on and it has been stopped for a short time. Baby on the way and wife doesnt like the idea of going for a stroll to let it cool down. Any help much appreciated

Hi Damian

I am also in Aus and whilst I do not have a stalling problem what I do have is when I start it (air or no air) the thing starts at about say 1-1500 rpm and drops drastically to say 500rpm sometimes lower, It has actually stalled a couple of times. I think it may have something to do with the stepper motor..(perhaps it needs a clean)others out there will know more. It does not seem to have caused any problem...so far

Hi fellow Ozzie,
Yep stepper motor might need clean.
Also check your Basic idle .
To do this block off both ends ( this is behind the plenum chamber) one end connects to the stepper housing and the other end connects to he plenum chamber.
start engine and take a reading, the RPMs should be within specs, ( iI think 500 RPMs, but check the precise settings)
If it is not correct, you will have to remove the plug to get to the Basic idle adjustment screw. I think it's an allen key job. Bring it to correct settings.
reconnect the hoses you removed and start engine, this will set the stepper in range again.

sorry above post was for Roly,
Damian, I take it yours is EFI.
Check your Fuel temperature sensor to see if it's faulty. This could cause hot start problems .

Any hints as to where I may find a fuel temp sensor? I was guessing it was a faulty temp sensor of some kind as I get absolutely no response at all when trying to dtart it
Thanks in advance

The Fuel temp thermister is on the lefthand side as facing the vehicle from the front. It is on the fuel rail after the 1st injector.
I would also check the fuel pressure regulator to see the fuel pressure is constant in the fuel rail and also make sure you don't have a leaking injector.
hope this is of help.
