I was going down the highway yesterday and the odometer would not turn the 6 all the way to the correct position, and it is the second number from the right. The speedometer needle was also bouncing rythmicly with the noise of the 6 trying to turn. I have had problems with the numbers wanting to change over the past few months but nothing major. This time I drove for about three miles, and it still would not finish turning, so I disconectected the cable from my right angle Drive. I also replaced my RAD about 11 months ago with a new one. Any ideas on what I can do? I would rather not have to put in a new speedo head.

Thanks,
Will Bobbitt

That's what happens when odometers break. Common on 87-89 trucks.

This happened to my speedo.
Wouldnt advance properly and the trip meter would not reset.
All the RR experts said it was broken and would need a new one. I took it to an instrument repaire and they said most likly full of dust RR speedo's not sealed very well. they took it out dropped it in some liquid cleaned it lubed it works perfect now.
Michael.

I got mine ghettorigged at the moment. I just took out the plastic dust cover, and then when the numbers don't want to roll anymore I just reach in and move them up with my fingernail. I will probabley have to get a new speedo this spring when there will be dust, but at the moment it's working out ok.

mine just started doing this. the only other issue was in the winter the cable would freeze and make a severly irritating noise.

so i only need a new inst. cluster and not the cable? i have a spare of both.

peter you need one? i dont know if the one out of the '88 is an exact fit (havent looked).

i dont want to disconnect the thing because i am curious as to how any miles i can rack up.

let me know,

how bad is the rear gate on the new one? maybe we can do some switching around, mine is about to fall off.
