Now this may sound really stupid.....but I have just been checking the Owners Handbook, prior to disconnecting the battery (in order to fit my dual Optimas) and it says "don't forget to disarm the alarm".

I don't know if my car has an alarm! All I do to get into the car is press the big oval button on the key and the doors open....no beeping of horn or flashing of turn signal lights.

I was never given any codes by the dealer so how do you know if the car has an alarm?

I have a 96D1, so don't know if I can help.. Mine has an alarm, which is activated every time I lock it with the remote. To disarm, I simply unlock it with the remote. I believe all these vehicles have an alarm system that functions in a similar way. I replaced my battery recently with an Optima Red Top. When I re-connected the battery, the radio display read "CODE". I had to enter a code (within some number of seconds) that I obtained from a local dealership. They gave me the code over the phone. I learned about resetting the code on this sight. If you do a search you'll find more detail.

I think you can check if it has an alarm by getting inside the car, then lock the car by pressing the lock button on the key ( don't insert the key on the ignition though), wait for a minute (who knows it might have some time delay), then open the door. If it has an alarm, i'm sure it will be activated.
