Time for my 45k mile service. Perfect timing I guess. My ABS/HD/TC lights came on the other day right after I flipped 45k. This is the second time it happened since I had my SLABS recall done. No biggie. I take it in with a few other things to look at while I am having the service done. My independant mechanic gave some things for them to check out : Head gaskets seaping oil, transfer box leeking, and possible oil pan leak. Sh*t. I also informed them my rocker arms are clicking. It has been a week and the dealer still has my truck. They had to "break it down" and replace my headgaskets and fix the transfer case. I am waiting to see if it will be done today or tomorrow. I don't wheel hard and never miss a service. I planned on keeping the truck long-term but this has got me thinking I need to jump ship while I can. Any similar experiences?

Been there and done that with my '00 D2 at 48K now. Most work done is warranty so no $ out of my pocket - just a little inconvenience. The way I look at it is the more shit gets fixed for free, the better you'll be off after the warranty expires at 50K. My truck is shiny and clean after the dealer experience. :) I am a happy LR nut.

* The dealer just replaces the whole assembly, etc. when I take it there for service. I have a new battery, new radiator, rocker arms, cylinder head gaskets, valve cover gaskets, seat belts (ABS light), etc.

Jack,

I have 00 DII with 72,000 kilometers. I have recently had the rocker arms replaced, new head gasket, and new rear main engine seal. She is now leak tight and running great. I agree with Phil, having this work done prior to loss of warranty is an advantage, and in some instances dependent on the dealer they do a better fix, than when it was factory installed.

I as well had the same three light come on after the SLABS was fixed. Dealer fixed it and told me that there is a problem with DII's reseting the ECU to tell truck that it has air instead of coils for suspension; that is why the lights come on as detects an error. They are currently working on a resalution.

BUT if you are JUST out of warranty on the ABS lights issue....they don't want to know...I'm tired of posting my BAD BAD experiences with Land Rover Bedford Hills , New York service dept....sigh....I LOVE the truck...but these folks are pathetic...can anyone say class action law suite?...it'll happen sooner or later when they piss off the wrong person, (ie; a lawyer). This issue is clearly electronic sensor related and in the software...the sensors are usually fine...but they want $700 PER WHEEL to change your ABS sensors...and guess what?. The lights all come on again later anyway....what a bunch of BS!!!

are you still bitching and moaning about bedford hills?? There are actions you can take, did you call owner care? Id say try New Rochelle, but I think they are the same owner. Dont even bother with Darien or Manhatten. I read your posts, and I understand your situation in that they worked on the truck under warranty and now you had the same thing happen out of warranty. All waranty work carries a 12 month/unlimited mile warranty on the part. If its the same part, different side of the truck, then you're out. You didnt buy the truck from them, you are out of warrenty, they are probably the smallest dealer in the country, why would they fix it for nothing?? I understand customer service.. blah blah bla, and I know its very frustrating, but instead of bashing them, make noise to LRNA.. youd be very surprised at what they can be coerced into doing for relentless customers. 800.637.6837.. ownercare, go off on them.. :)

You are probably right Gil...and I did call LRNA...they blew me off too....and yes the vehicle WAS supplied by this dealer...but hey, that's the LAST car they will ever sell me...they do Jags too....and I have one of those...oh dear...what is a customer to do. Sorry to gripe...I own my own business and HATE being treated with such indifference....I actually have to WORK for my customers...it's like when folks call you up for the PBA donations and then hang up on you the instant you say..."but I just sent you guys a check last... ...click"

I didnt realize you bought it from them. I would think that being as small as they are, they would go out of thier way to keep a customer. Its not like you dont have options out that way. Dealers sometimes have tunnel vision.. Im sure youve told many people of your experience, not to mention those that read this site. Is all that bad rap worth them saving the $700?? I dont think so.. sometimes there is the mentality of "theres always another customer." there is no business like the car business..

It is only going to get more expensive.

Once you are out of warranty buy some metric wrenches or get your amex platinum warmed up.
