The story:

I had a volvo S70 and bought an Alpine CD changer to mate with the pre-configured stereo that would allow for 6 disc CD changer. Got rid of the Volvo, but kept the changer. I though it may make more sense to buy a stereo for my 97 Disco that would mate with the changer. The changer is an Alpine CHM-S620. Is there an In dash that will mate with it? I assume that it will require a new wiring harness. Just thought it was cheaper to get a new stereo than to but the LR changer...

Thanks.

You can use an RF modulator. Go to Circuit City and pick one up. They sell Alpine now. They may have to order it, but it will be cheaper than buying a new head unit.

Don't buy the land rover Harmon Kardon with the navigation system. My audio has been silent for a month. Fault after fault. Dealer can blow, 2 mo. old disco...no help at all.

First cd changer stops working...seemed like no power up..but then 2 days later it starts to work flawlessly.

About 10 days go by, and then the radio head goes black, and won't power up at all. So I check all the fuses (ok)no help from dealer.

Then...I leave my Disco at the aiport 5 days, come home and batt. is deader than a mackerel. I have a brand spankin new batt...and left nothing on. So I have to jump start the damn thing a midnight in the parking structure...
ok...finally find a willing victim, and get er running.
Hey looky here...my radio magiclly powers up!
But now it wants a code!
So the next day I call the dealer, and they give me the code...but the radio won't accept it...
I have the code rechecked...try it again...won't accept it.
Now I've been told to leave the key in the on position for at least an hour and then try it (engine off)
Then I was told to disconnect the Batt. cables for an hour, then refasten and try...then I wAS TOLD to press the TP button along with 1 and 3 simultaeneously and then try. I'm sure next it'll be juggle 3 balls and whistle Dixie while eating crackers underwater, and then try the code.
This has been a MONTH!
ANYONE HAVE A SOLUTION?
All I have left is to go to the dealer and freak out in front of their customers over the horse s@$t service. (I hate gettin all riled like that...lifes to damn short to spend it fighting with car dealers, this just ticks me off..2 month old truck...)

Can you isolate (shut down) the navigation system and get the radio code to work? Maybe pull a fuse? For a 2 month old truck, that's wrong. wrong, wrong!

if you push the 1 and 3 simultaneously while jiggling the key in the ignition with your right hand, and also lowering your left rear power window, the radio should function properly after that. oh, crap, i almost forgot! make sure your blinker is indicating "left" and your foglights are engaged.

craigd, you're not the only one, so dont feel bad.. this is what LRNA told the dealers to tell you. It works 70% of the time. The other 30%?.. well, your guess is as good as theirs.

Freelander/Discovery Radio/NAV Blank Screen Syndrome
Customers may complain that the Becker radio/NAV unit in their vehicle is “locking up.”
The most common symptoms are a blank NAV screen and the radio head unit will not
turn on.
Replacing the radio/NAV unit is NOT THE SOLUTION to this situation. Do not
order replacement units in an attempt to fix the problem.
Land Rover is aware of the situation and is working on a permanent resolution. In the
meantime a temporary process for waking up the radio can be followed:

· Press the “ON” button.
· Refer to Figure 1 and simultaneously press and hold the “TP” button and the
multifunction buttons 1 and 3.
· Hold all three buttons for several seconds
NOTE: The system will generally reset quickly when the 3 buttons are pressed.
· If the system does not reset, press the “ON” button a second time.
· Verify that the map disc is inserted and that the unit can “see” satellites
(the vehicle is not in a workshop or blocked by other obstructions).
· Ideally position the vehicle on a mapped highway.
· Ignore any "GPS MODULE ERROR" messages that appear. They will appear
until the unit has confirmed its location.

Blitzsafe makes an adapter for and Aftermarket Alpine 6 disk changer to your factory stereo. With it all your contols will work. Atleast on my D2 00. I got it about 1 1/2 years ago i got it direct from the company with some sweet talking. It was about $125

Bentvictor,

Either do the FM modulator trick, an adapter for the CD only, or rewire the whole truck. The 97+ D1 stereo is a nightmare to try and hook an aftermarket head unit into (BTDT, still trying to fix it). The only problem for the 97 is that it uses dual antenna inputs, so you might have to get creative in wiring it up, or maybe if they make a local-broadcast version. In the end, the $250 for a used LR CD changer may seem cheap. In fact, I'm so fed up with it that my weekend project is, in fact, rewiring the truck (and new speakers and amp). Let me know if you want more info.

www.blitzsafe.com duh
check with Worst Buy, Shity City any car and audio shop they may have it. When I was looking for mine I know that they had them for the DI's but not the DII. Within a few weeks they had made me one for the DII.
Good luck
