Are the lengths, mounting flange, etc different for the rear driveshafts on a D1 and DII? I'm not talking about one of them being rotoflex and one being u-jointed. If you had the correct 4-bolt flange on the rear diff would a D1 u-jointed rear shaft bolt onto a DII or are they completely incompatible? Also, would the rear pinion flange from a D1 fit on a DII? I know someone who converted their D1 rotoflex to a u-joint shaft. Their driveshaft and pinion flange may now be available so I'm trying to determine if they are even compatible with a DII. Thanks, Rick |

I was told when wondering the same thing that the d2 and d1 shafts do appear to have subtle differences between them enough to make the shop (in the UK) shy away from even attempting the swap |

The mounting flanges off the transfer case is different on a D1 and a D2. The D2 has the rotoflex flange and the D1 is for a UJoint. On the front, you can swap in a D2 driveshaft on a D1 by changing the flange on the transfer case. I'm not really sure about the rear driveshaft though. Thanks, Mike B. |
