I am looking at putting a set of off-road tires on some steel wheels. I understand that the bolt pattern is the same as some Ford's. Can these same wheels be used on the Discovery? I understand that I would need to use different lugnuts that those that are used with the stock DI alloy wheels. Coming from modifying front wheel drive cars with IFS, I know that a different offset will quickly wear out the CV joints on the half shafts of IFS cars. I assume that with solid axles this is not the case? Any info would be greatly appreciated, especially any makes (American Racing, etc) and models that can be purchased at the local tire shop, or the size, bolt pattern and offset needed for the steelies (I know the size is 16X7, but I do not know the bolt pattern or offset for sure). Thank you very much |

Check Gulf Coast Rovers, they have some offset steel wheels for Rovers (American Racing) for about $65 each. ---Norm |

Your Discovery is a Series 1, correct? I have a Series 1. I am running American Racing wheels for Gulf Coast Rovers. They are the only company that can still get these wheels. I have never hear of the bolt pattern be a Ford? The Pattern is a 5 bolts on 6.5". I am using the stock lug nuts from my alloy wheels without any problems. See my gallery for pictures. |

If it is for a disco I, you can use series wheels. I know Dom has a set of 15x8s he is looking to part with. Ron |

Discount Tire will order them for you, about $55 a wheel. |

Brian, the bolt patten is 5 on 6.5, i have not heard of a Ford of any vintage with this pattern. The stock wheels have (i believe) zero offset (4" backspacing). The steelies made by Unique have about 3/8-1/2" offset outwards, which may result in tire rubbing against the quarter panels. peter |

I wish rover made them 8 lug nuts, now that would be heavy duty and better looking IMHO!!! |

yeah, but personally I think It's pretty damn cool that anything series all the way up to DI is interchangeable |

Pete. I don't know that an 8 bolt pattern would be heavier duty than the Rover 5 bolt. The Rover studs are much larger than your typical domestic truck. Maybe 8 would be a little stronger, but I've never broken a stud on any of my Rovers, even my '62 that has the older and smaller studs. And I contantly drove it off-road way beyond it's rated load even for highway driving. Cheers |
