I thought I'd start a new thread on this. My alignment is off and I cant seem to get it striaght. I noticed that if I steer slightly to the right I can take my hand off the wheel and the truck will continue in a straight line. Maybe my steering wheel just got knocked off center. Is there anyway to adjust this? Thanks for the input. Dan 98 Disco I Portland OR |

Drag link. Loosen nut, straighten wheel, retighten nut. I think it's the drag link. Whatever nut is right there sota beneath the power steering pump. One of the experts can tell you if the drag link or not. |

dan, the drag link is where you adjust the centering on your steering wheel. look under the front of you disco and the drag link runs from the drop arm(pitman arm) to the swivel (knuckle). when looking at the truck it drops at an angle from right to left. use a 11mm wrench to loosen the end clamps on the rod and twist the counter clockwise rod towards you. lengthening the adjustment will turn your steering wheel counter clockwise, shortening will turn clockwise.keep in mind, that wheel centering just doesn't go out, check for bad rod ends, bent rods, worn bushings, swivel preload,etc... you get the idea. in any case, good luck. marc |

When the drop arm points dead ahead, the wheels should also point straight ahead, as does the steering wheel. Thus, you will have to start with the drop arm pointing straight ahead, that's your point of departure, your fixed point. Or you will end up with strange steering performance. |

go pay someone $29 and have them put it on a alignment rack set toe ,inspect the links and adjust the drag link to center the steering wheel. no offence I'm all for DIY, but this should not be your first project . if you are not sure of what a drag link is you may miss something such as a bad joint or bent tie rod that a expierienced alignment guy will catch. my .02 thom |

Thanks for the advice Thom. However, it has been to two alignment shops and been on the rack twice. Both times the shop monkeys just kind of shrugged their sholders. Maybe I just need to find a better shop? This isnt my first DIY project. Land Rover of Portland charges $110/hr for labor. That means I usually try things myself before I take it to someone else. I need to change out a broken door lock this weekend so I'm gonna get dirty anyway. From Marc's description above (thanks Marc) this dosent sound to difficult to figure out. My time is even cheaper than $29 so I'll give it a shot. Any other reccomendations or words of advice will be appreciated. Thanks all, Dan |

I'd find a better shop. When I bought my RTE links, I brought mine to Sears Automotive. They had no problem. I can't imagine that any shop would have a problem. If can't figure out how to an alignment on a Rover, they've got some big issues. |

it's an easy job if you can actually spin the drag link on the rod ends. they will more than likely be rusted/frozen on there. take the whole bar/ends off and work it like that.
