My 2000 discovery's manufacturer warranty is just about to expire (I have 48,000 miles on the vehicle). I checked into an extended warranty through LRNA. The cost is $2,150.00. Is it worth the money? So far I have not had any major problems, but you know how that goes. Any comments would be appreciated.

Thanks,

caneal

I just saw the thread on warranty's ( sorry, not awake today). The warranty that LRNA offerd me was an additional 3 years or 100,000 miles with everything covered but the usual stuff (belts, hoses tires, etc...) for $2,150.00. Any comments?

Chuck.

Here's a link to a rather extensive "Extended Warranty FAQ" I wrote for the folks over at the Corvette Forum (back when I had a C5).

http://www.corvetteforum.com/reviews/viewsubtopic.php?SubTopicID=505&TopicID=6

Extended Warranties - are difficult, at best, to compare equally - UNLESS you have all the FACTS (which are numerous). Everyone (buyers and companies alike) boast that THEY got/have the best deal around. Few, rarely, do all the homework neccessary to make such a claim. Remember, read the contract and compare apples to apples.

The FAQ covers all the "hidden, nit-picky" areas that I found when buying a warranty.

Good Luck!

Caneal,

I too am in the same boat. I have a 00D2 with 48.5K miles. I received a pricing sheet from my LR dealer (Wilmington, DE) for the Certified Plus warranty. Specifically, I was looking at the 7yr/100K feature. The MSRP was $1,590 and I understood they have a bit of flex on the price. Looks to be an exclusionary policy. I am curious that your dealer is offering something different than mine. I would think that all LR dealers would be selling the same warranty product.

As for wheather or not it is worth it: For +/- $1,500 you better believe it!.

I have the Peak 2000 plan through Hal Moses. I spent about $3450 for a 6 year 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty. The first claim was a major PIA, but my second claim went smoothly. I'm still on the fence if it was a good deal or not. Call Hal if you have questions at 800-933-9190.

Thanks,
Mike B.

I think it kinda depends on the truck. My warranty ran out last Feb and I opted not to buy the extended warranty based the vehicle's performance up to date. It's a 98 D1 and hadn't had any problems or leaks up to that point hence my decision not to buy the extended warranty. Instead I put aside some money every month as an "emergency" fund, in case something happens but if nothing happens, then I have that money as a "slush" fund for other things (ie. sliders :)). But if you have doubts about your truck's reliability, then maybe the extended warranty is a good idea.

When I bought our 96, I figured that since it's used, was leaking oil and I don;t know much about Rovers, I'd benefit from the extended warranty. I did. I paid about $1800 for 2 yr warranty and had about $5600 worth of work done. Seals (almost everywhere), exhaust gaskets, rocker assembly, new ECU, new PS hose, few tow bills a bunch of miscellaneous crap. So, like Allan says, go by the vehicle's history/performance.

The warranty I purchased was $2,100 and it was a 5 year/100,000, bumper to bumper, exclusionary warranty with a $0 deductable.

The 5 year contract period began from date of issuance (not the in-service date of the the car). I can take the car to any ASE certified facility (dealer or independent) and the warranty pays out a full retail shop rates. It provides $30 a day for a loaner and the company pays the facility directly via creadit card.

My Land Rover dealer LOVES finding problems with my Disco.

FWIW, you have to buy the policy while your car is still under factory warranty. In my case, I purchased the warranty in the 47th month when the car had 48,000 miles on the odometer. I will be covered until 100K or until 2007 - whichever comes first.

The warranty paid for itself in the first 6 months of ownership.

Good Luck,
Eric

Thanks for the info. I'm going ask LRNA why the difference in prices across the country on dealer warrantys (I'm located in Salt Lake City). I'll let you all know what I find out.

Purchased my extended warranty today for $1,700. It is a 6 year/100,000 mile ($100.00 deductible per visit) Assured contract through LRNA. This is a 20% discount off of the MSRP. Apparently each dealership has the same price list but is indepenent when it comes to how much they are willing to discount. Thanks Rupert for the info sheet that you sent me. It came in handy.
