Discovery series I. 1999 model. 60 k miles. When cruising on the interstate and slowing down, for traffic or whatever, then accelerating, my disco stutters badly. Stuttering stops if I down shift. Just had 60k service. Any ideas on the problem?

Stuck valve.

I'll second the stuck valve. That's my '99 DII with 60,000+ to a tee. This problem is also addressed in earlier threads, search "nitrite". A drink of water from time to time and "driving like you mean it" keeps it at a minimum disturbance level.

Mine started doing something very very similar to your problem after I replaced my plugs with Bosch Platinum 2's. I got a code for my check engine light that showed multiple engine misfires. I pulled all of those $$ plugs back out and replaced them with crappy $1.25 plugs and the problem disappeared. But just like you said, when it began to stutter, you downshift into 3rd and the problem went away. I've got a '96 with 137k on it. Later, be sure to check your codes.. Rob

I had a problem like that I used my Jeep solution replace the parts with better ones. Well platnum plugs jacobs wires and still no fix. Went to the cheap champion plugs and cheap wires and that fixed the problem. the service manager told me that some rovers dont run well with the expensive stuff. Picky cars
